There is demand for film SLRs
7/14/2022 at 9:22 AM
There is a resurgence in demand for old film based SLRs right now. The Canon AE-1 was a very common SLR in the late 1970s to 1980s and very well regarded. It was popular with amateurs and people starting out in film photography.
My recollection is that it uses a cloth shutter so it is important that the shutter is still working and firing at all speeds and there are no pinholes in the shutter. The Canon AE-1 is electronic so you will want to check the battery compartment to make sure there were no leaks. Also, check the lenses. Make sure there is no fungus and the focus ring turns smoothly. If you can test the aperture to make sure the blades close properly. and they are not stuck, rusted or covered in oil.
I am sure you could find someone who is interested in taking it off your hands, depending on condition and whether everything works.
On Ebay they are going in the $150 to $300 range depending on condition and accessories. Post it for sale on EBrandon and see if you get any interest.
