Possible Issues.

First thing to consider is whether you are on Copper Wire or Fiber Optic. Fiber is extremely fast and shouldn't cause any throttling issues. Copper Wire, however, is a bottle neck. The more people in your area that are using the internet will throttle the amount of data throughput to your network.
Second, are you running on WIFI or are you wired through ethernet? WIFI is convenient, but it will always be slower than a physical connection. If you can get some RJ45 cables (Ethernet) and plug your devices directly into your router, that will help increase the speed and reduce any WIFI interference.
Another thing to think about is where your Router is situated. If it is in a cluttered area with a large amount of electrical devices/wiring in the immediate area, those devices might be interfering with the WIFI signal. Everything with an electrical current gives off Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI). Having too much power hungry devices around your router is comparable with putting your router inside of a microwave.
Those are just a few things off the top of my head, if you continue having issues afterwards, then you may have another issue. Information Technology is a fickle thing. Some things are a simple fix, while others require a huge amount of troubleshooting.
