Help with iPod

I currently have a 2G shuffle and have upgraded from a friend to a 30G classic. What I am wondering is, can I save the music/videos on the classic and still add on my current playlist from my shuffle? Will I lose everything that I have purchased from itunes if I hook the classic up to the acct?
