disappointed with my Dell laptops

I have never in my life been more frustrated and disappointed in a computer product! I have two Dell laptops, one an Inspiron 1521, the other an Inspiron 1525, both run Vista. They freeze constantly, sometimes have wireless and sometimes not...and no...its not my router or an issue with Vista, it's Dell computers! IMO they are crap and I will never buy another one!! My husband has a cheaper Acer laptop that runs like a dream and he has the same programs installed and approx. the same amount of documents as the two Dells. Just the other day, the 1525's hard drive fried and has to be replaced, and I bought it in March!! oh..and the warranty doesnt cover that!! Gee...wonder why? *typed with utter sarcasm*
Has anyone else had issues with Dell computers or laptops? Or am I alone here?
I am considering trashing the 1521 (my personal laptop) and buying an Apple instead. Any advice on switching? Or will i run into the same issues with Apple products?
