Laptops: the best, the worst

I'm in the market to buy a new laptop and I am having trouble figuring out which one is best to get. I am a university student so I will be using it to take notes and also browsing and would like a dvd burner. I've heard good things about acer's and hp's but I would like to know which brand is best! If you have one I'd love for you to describe what you like/dislike about it.
