Westman Comm taking bold steps to ensure customer email accts are secure
12/3/2010 at 10:09 AM
Received a letter in the mail this morning from the folks at Westman Communications Grp. I've added a pic of the letter to the right-hand column of this thread, but the gist of it is that they're requiring email accounts whose passwords do not meet industry security standards to have those passwords changed by December 15 or the e-mail account will be suspended. By "suspended," they're clear that the account is still able to receive messages but the user will be unable to login to send/receive messages until the customer calls in to re-activate.
In the letter it states that all passwords should be a minimum of eight characters in length and contain at least one capital letter and at least one number.
In my case I don't actually use the email account associated with my internet access account, but I'd presume that there are many who do use their Westman email accounts that have received the same letter.
Even if you aren't a Westman account subscriber, in light of what seems to be an increase in email account hacks (mainly Hotmail that I've noticed) I'd strongly recommend that anyone follow the same advice with their e-mail account.
In the case of your eBrandon account, this is not an absolute requirement but I do recommend that you use a strong password following the same guidelines. You can change your eBrandon account password by going to your profile and clicking on the "profile settings" link.
