Windows Vista. The Good , The Bad and the Ugly
9/26/2007 at 11:17 PM
So..I get a lot of questions still from people looking to buy a new computer system being it a tower system or laptop asking about Windows Vista. Yes it seems Microsoft has done it to everyone again and come out with Vista just to keep everyone asking " Is it Good, Bad or Ugly." Well it is all of the above. And another question I get is what Edition of Vista should I get? Oh yes, there are 5 Editions of Vista, Ultimate,Home Premium,Home Basic,Business and Enterprise. And yes, depending on what version is on the computer you are looking to buy the cost will go up as the Edition goes up. So what do you do? How good are the sales people? How knoledgable are they? Insted of me typing the differences to all the editions of Vista here is what you do.. when buying a new system, ask the sales person what edition of Vista you should get, Now this is the important part, If the sales person does not ask you "What is it your going to be using this computer for? Are you just going to be doing basic computing such as internet surfing, word processing and email? STOP... dont pay for an operating system you dont need. Go and either find someone that can explain this to you or do some reading or email me. I will be more then happy to help. Also if you see a computer you really want and it comes with Vista installed and you dont want Vista then ask them to remove Vista and install another version of Vista. Now, Yes, they are going to say that it will cost you more to have them do that this is where you STOP again. Remember your buying a computer not buying a share of Microsoft. If they wont install another OS for you then they dont want your business very well. I just had this very same conversation with a sales person when going with a student to help her buy a laptop for school. Trust me they removed Vista and installed Windows XP free of charge. Now, some people may want Vista and that is fine but they should offer the option.
And on another note..what about compadablity? Are all other companies keeping up with getting on the Vista band wagon. The answer is no, not yet but they will. So the only question is, is Vista Good, Bad or Ugly. Well the answer to this is easy. It is a personal prefrence. I've used it, my laptop came Vista ready so I tried it, told myself been there, done it, not impressed da dadada and I re-installed my Windows XP.
Now, I'm not bashing vista. but I have had so many people ask me to remove it from their computers that I was thinking that people really need to take a look at this before they buy. And dont be afraid to ask the right questions before you buy. And if your not sure of the right questions then call me and I'll go with you.
