Surprised not to see any commenting about the new iphone release. I am curious about it. I see some improvements. I like the better camera. Once the hype cools down I think I will upgrade from my 4s to the 6s.

All depends on how much stock Apple has at launch and how much they make available to carriers. If it's anything like last year, don't count on walking into the store and buying one on the fly immediately. Should however be able to preorder through Rogers' site on Saturday if last year's launch was any indication. Based on what they receive from Apple they would then ship your preordered phone to a chosen local Rogers store for you to pick up, perhaps as early as launch day though there definitely were some delays initially last year unless you were one of the first preorders.

Maybe they'll be in a better position than last year in terms of stock, but if not and you really really want it your best bet would be to preorder right through Apple's site and then have it setup for you at Apple Store in Winnipeg if you'll be making the trip (they are able to do Rogers contracts). Or if you're really really hardcore, preorder both and cancel one when the other comes through.

6S isn't enough of a step up from my 6+ to justify an upgrade but we do have a 5 in the house that's hanging on by a thread and ready to be replaced. Can't see any special trips into Apple Store... will probably try our luck with Rogers preorder and it'll come when it comes.

If anyone knows the process for MTS or any other carrier please feel free to chime in.

I think the 3D touch looks like a cool option that you'll probably see on every phone going forward. Reminds me of a "right click" option on a mouse. Could be very useful for the power user.

Preordered the 5S direct from Apple as soon as it was released and I think I had it a couple weeks later. When the 6/6P was released I briefly considered it, but felt there is still a lot of wear left in my 5S. Mint condition due to a Griffen case and I consider the battery to be more than respectable. We may consider getting rid of the wife's 4S a little later, funds permitting, give her my 5S, MAY consider a battery replacement for the 5S, may not. Her 4S is on 7-11 Speakout (Rogers) and mine is on MTS. Neither of us have a contract, or data plans for that mater (wifi is fine for us). Both phones are unlocked from new, so we are not bound to any contracts, etc. flip SIM cards around and we are good to go!

If I upgrade, I want a 6S, I think the 6S+ would be too big for me.

Sounds like pre-orders are "on pace" to be higher than what they had last year for the 6/6+:

Ours wasnt one of them. Having second thoughts based on how much this particular phone would be used, how much the price has crept up ($528.99 is the subsidized price for 64GB 6S on 2 year contract) and the idea of having to sign off on a plan that amounts to committing another $120 over the term of the contract. More frequent upgrades were a heck of a lot easier to rationalize when you could sell your used phone for $250, then pretty much turn around and use that same money to buy the new one. Assuming that a lot of the problem is the currency difference... looks like you can get the same phone in the US for $299 (USD) on a 2 year contract.

Cheers to that... no idea of what stock is like elsewhere but looks like things might be a little less constrained than last year for the smaller 6S at least.
Though obviously the 6S+ is not in as great of supply. Based on Best Buy my first guess is that anyone that has to have a 6S+ early is likely either lucky, connected or willing to work a little harder for it.

We managed to get Rogers to chop $5/month off of the plan for the phone that we're considering an upgrade on so will likely be going for it. If someone else is considering an upgrade it wouldn't hurt to call in ahead of time, ask to speak to customer relations and let them know you know of someone else locally that's gotten the cut rate. Maybe they can do the same for you.

Got notice our new 6s's are in transit.

Initially I was told I couldn't keep the same terms (old terms were at a great past promotion price) and the new plan was going to be considerably more - to the point that I was considering outright cash purchase to keep my old terms. Spoke to a different rep at Rogers and was able to get subsidized phones for same terms as my old plan. It pays, with Rogers at least, to be insistent.

The Rogers store on 18th St right across from the keystone center has lots of them. No plus from what I hear, but a good amount of all colors and sizes. They are great to deal with there too.

Yep we get all our phones from Frank and his crew down at the Corral Center. By far the best MTS dealer in town. They will look after ya even after you buy the phone.
