(False) Westman Communications Group Data Cap?

Morning was just reading stuff this moreing and see westman has put a data cap once again on there internet service just posting in case people start getting over billed.

The Service includes up to 5 E-mail addresses, 15 Megabytes of personal Web space on Westman's server with 30 Megabytes
of traffic per month, Internet access 24 hours per day 7 days per week, 10-Gigabyte upload and 15-Gigabytes download
traffic cap per month for Internet service: 2-Gigabyte upload and 4-Gigabyte download for EasyNet service: 15-Gigabyte
upload and 20-Gigabytes download traffic cap per month for UltraNet service. Service charge beyond the traffic cap may be
charged at an amount of $6.00 per Gigabyte over the limit. Westman may do scheduled maintenance Sundays between 2:00
a.m. and 6:00 a.m.

Thise sort of numbers of bandwidth caps were similar to what I had in the late 90s....even as of the year 2005 my bandwidth cap was 100GB total for upload + download

That information must be wrong as i can assure you I always exceed that tiny amount, honestly probably in 3 days or less. Netset offers more data than that, I know when i signed up with westman that there was no data limits.

MTS does not have data limits within city limits and neither does westman as its direct cable to the servers where as a wireless internet has limitations by the government and from their upstream providers.

In don't have any official comment and it might be tough to get with this being a weekend, but to put a little more context to why it's highly likely that that document is outdated even though it is linked from WCGs site...

The link below gives info on Netflix data usage. 0.7GB/hour for medium quality streams, 3GB/hour for HD:

Using that info you would burn through a 20GB cap in less than 7 hours of HD streaming and then you'd pay $36 in overage charges to stream one single 2 hour movie (aka very very highly likely outdated info)

I assure you this is outdated info/catch all. WCG have NEVER charged usage based billing or enforced data caps.

you will notice it says:

"Service charge beyond the traffic cap MAY be charged"

The operative word being MAY. its a catch all in case at some point usage based billing does come into play.

I agree though it should be removed to avoid confusion, especial for for customers of other providers looking for information on Westman services.

Have heard back from a Westman rep and can confirm that the document is not current. Westman's internet does in fact come with unlimited usage. To avoid confusion I will be closing this thread to further comment.
