You can run Windows 32 bit on a 64bit machine. That's not your problem. I have a hunch you have a "hacked" version of Win7 you got somewhere.
I suggest you get your network adapter driver working first, then try Windows update. If Windows update still don't work, you have bigger problems than installing drivers.
