I can see being able to get most of us canadians those speeds at a fair cost but it would cost a fortune to extend those services to all canadians, there are many who live miles away from town that can only get satellite at no where near those speeds, data service isnt great and then there are those in remote communities, who likley need it the most but the expense to get them up to speeds is going to be a bit, mind you im no expert on all the technology so maybe there is a feasible solution canada should be working toward for people not in town or in the south of our country
There are people in rural MB that have no basic Inet. My parents at the farm are an example. They cannot have dial up Inet. The Carrier that they get dial tone from just does not make it feasible. To go cellular or even one of the wireless providers is not good either. Trees and poor cell signal prevents it as well.
I wonder how the providers would be able to honor this mandate.
Pretty sure if Bell/MTS approached my dad and said could we put a tower on the hill on the farm he would say yes. They only limiting factor that would prevent people from grabbing signal from the tower would be distance. It is one of the highest points around that I know of.... " |

on our farm we can get dial up and we did have explorenet(sp?) but we also have the tree/line of sight issue for any other service, we too have a hill that is the highest in the area and i would gladly work out a tower deal but at this time the population just doesnt warrant anyone putting in the service, not sure what a tower costs but that is the only feasible way i see to get the few people in the area the services mandated
I am curious, why can your parents not get dial up, whats not feasable? only people i know of that cant get dial up didnt want to pay for the phone line from the road to the house, but it has been 3 years since we had it, wondered how much longer they would offer dial up even, not that dial up is anywhere near sufficient
as a side note we did put a booster in the house and that did make a world of difference in the ability to get any cell service at all
