Smart Phones recommendations. Plus Rogers or MTS?

I'm looking to take a jump to a smart phone... But I am unsure of which direction to take.
I would like to stick with MTS but sad to say there phone selection is pretty lackluster.
I have heard people having issues with Rogers.
Right now I am thinking about a BlackBerry 8830. I'm also thinking about waiting for the iPhone to finally arrive or buying an unlocked one and signing up on Rogers (if I can).
Anyone have experiences with Blackberries and/or Rogers?
Any help would be welcomed!
