This happened at a Miami, MB K-12 school.

It really doesn't matter what the sign says, but that it happened in a public school during school hours. Then it was posted to social media. Public schools are no place for political activism like that, no matter the political view. The teacher was still working and representing the school.  
 
Many places of employment (public and private) have policies against such actives along with social media policies.  
 
Reading many of the Facebook comments on this story, most do not understand why it's wrong and needs to be investigated.  
 
The school division has a policy relating to this very thing.

Staff getting hauled in for personal posts they make after hours. Not political, not work related. But then again the BSD is the biggest joke in Brandon with the way they treat their staff. Maybe that’s why the bsd is short on substitute teachers and EA’s.

He took the post down after a couple of hours and has acknowledged it was not an appropriate thing to do. The administration is looking into it. We all have lapses in judgement. Some are just more public than others.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. In grade 8 my social studies teacher had us convinced that free trade would destroy Canada. It was literally presented in that fashion. The irony is that Mulroney is now considered one of our greatest Prime Ministers. Sooo maybe my teacher had her facts wrong lol. In this case I side with the teacher and MP.

Oh, for heaven’s sake! That’s ridiculous. He has a right to his opinion. Doesn’t matter what his job is or what time he posted it. Many of us already feel the same way lol

The MP had it on her's for longer. And still if you delete it, it's still been seen and saved somewhere. Deleted posts can still haunt you.  
 
The teacher will probably have to be reminded of division policies.

It’s great how they allow adult bullying happen as well. Literally have two teachers that should have been let go years ago ( but they have a big name here) they’ve bullied a fellow teacher to the point they are off on stress leave. Not to mention how many kids have been deterred from education because of them. Complaints filed and all ignored. Their personal bashing posts were conveniently overlooked, yet the one they bully was reprimanded for saying they were being bullied. Odd

I worked for the government in the days when social media was in it's infancy. Back in the day, there were clear guidelines for what public servants can and can't do when it comes to politics. I'm sure it has since been expanded to the realm of social media. Public servants are supposed to be neutral when it comes to their jobs. Anything else would have required me to take an unpaid leave of absence.  
 
Teachers are public servants. I would assume that political neutrality is part of the territory demanded by their profession.  
 
Although it's hard to not speculate whether a sign in support of the PM would have received the same reaction. Because in all fairness, it should.

While I share your frustration that parents and kids can post rants like that, they are not bound by a code of conduct relating to their employment.  
 
Like it or not, teachers are. It's not about bullying, but about application of rules that the teachers themselves have agreed to as a term of their contract.

If he insulted Harper, Trump or any conservative / republican, there would be no issue. So it gets down only unions can insult anybody who isn't a friend of theirs.  
 
In the meantime, The Manitoba Teachers Association shouldn't really be airing any commercials.

How does this differ from the many many teachers and professors that do the same to Trump or Harper for that matter?
