Let the games begin

I think both parties have failed in terms of health care.  
 
Someday everyone will be alone sick in a hospital room thinking OMG this is bad. Poor cleaning due to a lack of staff causing super bugs, getting kicked out early, no beds in the ER or to get you out of ER.

I just can't go back to the NDP especially with wabber at the helm. I don't like the history of that man, with his degrading songs about his own people and the way he attacked an innocent man (cab driver).

Wow is all I can say.

While I empathize with the experiences you have had and would not wish that on anyone, your rush to blame a little weak. People will continue to die and suffer no matter who is in power. That is simple reality.  
 
Was the death of Brian Sinclair and the murder of Tina Fontaine a reason to condemn the NDP? No, they were operational failures and shortcomings that happen under any government.  
 
We, as a society, always have to look for ways to improve things. You are entitled to believe how you think that improvement will be brought about. But, please, be realistic when it comes to the assignment of blame.

Can you explain who you are referring to when you say "you people"?

My family are “common folk” who live pay cheque to pay cheque. And that 1% is important to us as well. We are taxed out the wazoo. It never should have been raised the way it was, and what’s to stop NDP from raising it even higher if in power. As “common folk” this family will never vote for Wab. So I kindly ask you to stop lumping all of us common people together.  
I’m sorry for what you and your family have been through, but more money in our pockets is important too. Just my opinion.

Some people are just angry with everyone and everything. And if you don't nod your head in agreement with them, you're part of the problem.  
 
Just don't get in the way of those people, yet alone come near them....you're likely to wind up in their cross hairs!

I have to use CPAP equipment and since the Pallister gov. completely stopped the coverage for replacement masks etc. I have had a problem affording replacement parts like the essential masks. This is false economy on Pallister's part because in the 3 years I've used the CPAP equipment my health has improved in a spectacular manner. As it should since before I was waking up every TWO MINUTES (240 times in an 8-hour period). I don't give a darn whether "other provinces are doing it" [not paying for replacement CPAP equipment]. Manitoba does NOT have to do what other provinces are doing. There are MANY low income Manitobans who just can't afford the $80+ for a CPAP mask every 3 months for crying out loud to say nothing of the new tubing, headgear (around $160 minimum once a year) So they give up the CPAP therapy & everything slides back into poorer health because of lack of sleep leading to more doctor visits, more emergency room visits etc.

Well I spend way more than $200 in a month, so that $2 is multiplied by a lot more, not just Walmart, but utilities and other bills. I have disabled family that has not been affected by any cuts, in fact the cost cut for ambulances that was made saved us even more money. Previously it cost close to $500 everytime that disabled relative needed to go to hospital (out of pocket), now its $250. So huge savings already for them.  
Once again I said it’s my opinion, no brainwashing going on here. Have a good day!

watch what they wish for is any government perfect no, but you could end up with way worse. Look at Alberta electing the NDP and how that went and the Liberals federally, there aren't many happy with how that's turning out either.  
Palister realized we can't keep spending and borrowing money/ raising taxes everytime we need another few $ , the tax payer don't have much left.  
Is he making cuts wisely maybe not. But you can't keep borrowing and throwing money away.  
Eventually the pipers going to want paying. everybody loves free stuff but in reality there is money from somewhere to pay for it.  
Right now provinces and Canada as a whole are hurting under some governments. Things need to change real quick if this country is going to survive much longer before the western provinces start trying to separate..

All the money that the NDP needs to be spent where does that money come from . Hmmm. Oh ya out of my pocket.

My first question is why are they calling an election a year ahead of schedule? The cost of an election is not a small thing so calling it early means a lot is being wasted.  
 
Next question is how are they recovering the money lost by the one % decrease?  
 
I would rather they kept the 1% and instead looked for more efficiencies to help forgo future increases.  
 
This election was called now only because the recent 1% decrease gives them the base of a “platform” based on tax reduction . Never mind that it is only smoke and mirrors.  
 
My vote will go to the party that demonstrates a genuine desire to increase spending on infrastructure, looks to lowering tuitions, and is serious about taking steps to curb climate change.  
 
Oh and bring Manitoba in line with the Federal laws regarding cultivating Cannabis. But that’s not really a deal breaker for me.

Your so critical of pallister. But when we elected him the province was in boatloads of debt left by the previous government. Sure he’s made cuts. Some maybe not the best. But he’s steering our province out of debt. What would the ndp done if re elected. I’d hate to see what our taxes and provincial debt would be like.

"You people" is quite an inflammatory statement and I think it was worth pointing out. I believe many different types of people likely have many different reasons for voting one way or the other. I have tried to be very respectful in adding to this conversation and recognize some of the things you, and others have gone through.  
 
From my perspective, you have not opened a conversation. You have started with beliefs that you feel are facts and anyone who disagrees with your POV is an uncaring self centered monster.  
 
I can assure you that, if you knew anything about me, you would soon understand that insinuating that I do not care for anyone other than myself is laughable and actually quite offensive.

on the backs of the average person like myself who has had to cut back in other areas to afford my CPAP & other health care costs is the way I see it. And try not to disrespect the NDP in ANY province about spending because if you look to Alberta, the Conservatives THERE had had 40 years of racking up the bills before they were voted out. Which left the NDP trying to figure out how to fix things FOR THE PEOPLE rather than for the big oil companies.

So where is this magic money for more healthcare, pharmacies, dental, eye, etc coming from? At who’s expense? Ambulance would most certainly have to go up to offset costs. What programs, infrastructure, etc will be cut to fund all these things?  
That’s what NDP does, is spend. Eventually someone needs to pay. I personally know we can’t afford to pay more out of pocket for these things (higher taxes).  
So are you saying, with NDP and leaving our taxes where they are now ( that 1% higher) all these things can happen , and budget will be balanced with no other increase to taxpayer? Why wasn’t it done in all those previous NDP years then? I’m pretty sure the previous spending is what put is in the situation to begin with.

something I noticed when I ended up in emergency (in Brandon, because guess what? Pallister had CUT THE EMERGENCY SERVICES in my rural area! )  
 
I was in emergency for 4 some-odd hours & watched closely at how things were handled because I'd heard of the horrendous wait times. First, you're triaged so I was in less dire straits than the man with chest pains & the kid with a broken ankle was lower in the triage scale to myself who was peeing blood. Then, when taken in, the staff had a lovely choreographed procedure. I had blood work done & while waiting for the results, the staff made me comfortable & went off to deal with the kid with the broken ankle. While HE was off having X-rays, the guy with chest pains was having an ECG. While waiting for his results, they came back to me with the results of the blood work. I got sent for an X-ray & the staff went back to see the results from the ECG.  
 
What I'm trying to point out is that there IS a certain amount of waiting involved with being in emergency and it MAY take some time for test results to be ready because the hospital X-ray, lab etc. also have to deal with the NORMAL hospital blood work etc. There were only 5 people in the ER when I was there so imagine what it would be like in a centre such as Winnipeg with its larger population (and the "reorganization" a.k.a. ELIMINATION of emergency services at certain hospitals) where many more people were coming in? The ER doctor said I was "a train wreck" but not in as imminent danger as the chap with chest pains was so it seemed a reasonable wait time to me. Not pleasant mind you but still reasonable.

The problem is many have been spoiled. I have had to stay almost 2 weeks in the hospital and the care I received was great. ER rural facilities being cut, this being cut, that being cut. Yes it NEEDS TO HAPPEN!! The NDP before has spent and spent ballooning our debt to record amounts. The provincial credit rating was dropped. How embarrassing when lenders are saying charge us more as we are spending beyond our means. Higher rates mean either we stop spending or......keep spending out of control and just keep raising taxes. Wasn't there that guy who died in a wheelchair in Winnipeg under the NDP? Why isn't all these people dying not being reported in the papers. Jesus the way Rocket19 talks I should be reading about daily deaths in hospitals vs meth busts. The truth is we are a population of just over 1 million people, and if lucky a million pay taxes. That is a very small population base to want all this luxury care. Show us where the money is. As for vacations. I know many business owners who spend a lot of vacation time away from work. Really that is getting old hearing about it. Is there an actual real argument here?

I'm not the only one that gets this, people who run up huge debt on finance with house ,car, credit cards what ever. will one day find out that if they don't pay this stuff off or get behind. They will get a knock at the door and somebodys taking their crap back.  
 
The provinces and federal government are in exactly the same boat. one day the wheels going to come of this band wagon when somebody knocks on the door for their money then what it's never really happened before  
 
. I went to Er with a kidney stone and blood pressure problems, the place was full at 10 pm and half of the people in there were wasting time and shouldn't of been there.  
 
I wasn't technically on deaths door but as soon as somebody realized I wasn't doing good I was next in.  
People have got to realize to much money has been wasted and the only way to deal with it is more taxes and bitch about it or cuts and bitch about it. Some people will never be happy with the situation.

I have been on CPAP for 6 years never replaced a mask once a year I buy hose cushion filters and head gear on Amazon costs me 90 dollars. Part of the problem with healthcare are people over using the system. Even when I was able to get new supplies I did not because I did not require them. Part of the issue in Manitoba and Canada is that we have more people drawing on resources then contributing. I believe that we need more cuts and user fees. About 4 years ago required an ambulance I was not able to drive or take a cab to emergency. I waited in pain for an ambulance almost an hour and the reason because somebody had indigestion and that was when we had NDP spending frenzy government. I will be voting for Paliser he has made a start and we need to cut deeper. I can't afford to keep paying more tax pretty soon I will be working full time and will need welfare and I am a red seal carpenter.

being able to make a CPAP mask last longer than 3 months. Been there, tried doing that and for me it just does NOT work so I'm by NO means "overusing the system" when I need new supplies. The silicon masks routinely last about 3 months for me & then the seal gets bad, my sleep gets worse, I get sick from lack of sleep etc. etc. I KNOW this because my brand of CPAP machine allows me to go online to check how my sleep has been and a bad mask seal shows up quickly. The humidifier tanks also fail on a regular basis but after some research, I discovered the solution which is buying a slightly more expensive replacement tank that is dishwasher-safe. I too buy my supplies now off the Internet but there are MANY people in Manitoba who might not have access to Internet or just plain don't know how to work their way through the online sites. It's FALSE ECONOMY to make cuts that may "eliminate" the problem in the short term and exacerbate the long-term health problems. Perhaps, Black Star, you might suggest to the government NOT to cover the cost of basic vaccinations & see where THAT cut gets everyone.

Look I realize you got health concerns. And the government cuts have made it harder for you to live. Yes that sucks  
 
But saying cut out vaccinations to save on the budget. That is plain nuts. Your going to risk the lives of thousands of young kid in Manitoba. Hundreds of thousands in Canada. Our nation would become the laughing stock of the modernized world. Vaccinations help millions and millions of people. Do we want polio back or measles or whooping cough or many other terrible diseases.  
 
Im sorry you’ve got health issues and pallister made them harder. But I’m also sorry that this is the most uneducated thing i have seen written in e Brandon in my life.

I'm constantly amazed at how Manitoba seems to have only two political parties. It's like there are no other alternatives but to vote NDP or PC. NDP is "tax and spend". Conservatives are "cut, cut, cut". Yet nobody talks about the third party. Provincial liberals are NOT the same as Federal liberals. Nobody can seem to understand that. I'm not advocating for the Liberal party, but am just puzzled as to why Manitobans seem to have completely written them off when they have never had a chance to govern. If everyone is so PO'd with the NDP and the conservatives, why do they just flipflop between the two and never give the Liberals the opportunity to govern, or at least be the official opposition?

I knew that would get a reaction! Made you think didn't it?? And that is what so MANY voters aren't doing - THINKING about OTHERS & how THEY are affected by the cuts made by Conservatives. So perhaps you'll realize now that there are SOME things the Conservatives are cutting to "save money" that are almost as vital & important to many Manitobans as vaccinations. And YOU are the uneducated one if you cannot understand how the health cuts Conservatives are making are putting MANY Manitobans at risk just as not funding vaccinations put people at risk. And YOU are the UNEDUCATED one if you can't separate a tongue-in-cheek remark MEANT to make people think versus a remark made by someone who actually believes vaccinations are worthless.

I used to have a lot of confidence with my vote...Now I just close my eyes, and hold my nose...and make an x anywhere on the ballot..doesn't seem to make a difference who gets in....they all promise and don't deliver....

I’ve spent many years watching economics and trying to study economics, for myself we are entering a really interesting period of time, a time when many economic theories are going to either be proven or disproven. Like the idiot that I am, I got into politics last fall, on the municipal level it’s going to be, let’s say interesting, on the federal or provincial level it’s likely going to be horrific.  
As others have said, it really doesn’t matter who gets elected, the results of many bad governments are going have to be dealt with shortly. Maybe it’s just me, but if I was involved in provincial or federal politics, losing might be a good idea.  
Remember that I do cry wolf as far as economic things go, but so many things are different this time around.  
Good luck to all the brave who are running for office, regardless of which party.

So you think your pretty clever trying to bait me in with vaccinations. I’m sorry but vaccinations are part of life. You need them. I bet a handful of people don’t even know what a cpac machine is. I’m not trying to downplay your medical situation. I’m just saying vaccinations are not somthing we can cut. And while I realize you do live with health problems. Cuts have to be made somenwhere. Where do you suggest we make cuts then if it can’t be in health care.  
 
A simple analogy I can use. If I’m personally in debt. Can I keep living and spending that way without it getting to a tipping point ? If I can’t do that then why can the province. And at what point does the province need to stop spending and start cutting? Since you got all the answers. Enlighten me.
