They reacently ripped up highway 10 from 2&10 to just south of clementy hill. My question is why?!. It was just redone and fine. You would think our tax dollars could go to improveing a highway that actually needs it. And lots in our area do. Thoughts?

I don't know, maybe preventative maintenance ?

fills in any small cracks that have formed since it was paved and extends the life of the pavement.

Maybe there’s a five year capital budget plan for each individual road.  
 
The bad roads might be scheduled for replacement. Leave them as is. Instead focus on keeping up the good roads.

They didn't rip up any highway! They are simply putting a sealcoat on it. Like someone previously said it is just filling in the cracks to help the highway last longer.

My question isn’t why they are resealing but why are so many drivers so ignorant to others? When the signs say max 40 when passing and no passing allowed, that isn’t just a suggestion. I was passed by 4 vehicles doing at least 100 this afternoon, including a Somersall Construction truck hauling a trailer at 12:45 that whipped past everyone and destroyed my windshield and hood paint.

There had been 60km signs which are removed. The 40km signs and no passing signs are all still there. I’m sure I pissed off a few people driving 65 to work yesterday, but coming home I went with the flow. Hope it’s cleaned up soon.

They never "ripped" it up. It was chip sealed and it prolongs the life of the highway. Which in turn saves having to rip it up and repave, which is way more expensive. Quit complaining.

I understand it's resealing and there are rocks involved. But 40km/h is way too slow for a highway.  
 
Most people are driving at 100km/h, and are passing at that speed.  
 
Isn't it to be driving 40km only when your passing an oncoming vehicle ? Other then that 100km?

the "40 when meeting traffic" signs are in fact suggestions, not limits. That's why they're orange.  
 
Imagine if everyone followed that strictly for just a moment: everyone would be slamming their brakes each time an opposing vehicle approached. then they all speed up again after the "threat" passes. that would be SUPER dangerous for rear-end collisions, way worse than just accepting the slightly elevated risk of taking a stone chip at-speed. I really wish they'd just decide one way-or the other: set the speed limit to 60/40 or else just take down all the signs and let traffic go 100. The messaging is just too vague

Is it actually just a warning sign and doesn’t have to be enforced?
