Trevor B said "perfect political system, all have there positives and negatives. Is our system perfect, heck no, but better than many others including the US system. They are always in election mode and elect for everything. And that's where politics get dirty. Your always going to have those that loose an election question it, then forget about it when they get elected.
Politics all through out human history has been the way it is now. And not likely to change. Your always going to have those with power and money making the rules. The problem in the US is when the electoral collage was created, the US was only a fraction of it's size and population. Since they also just broke away from Britain, they didn't want to use their system.
I think like the US, we are stuck with our system. There would have to be a total takeover of the government (coupe) that ends the Constitution. The whole WEXIT thing will never get beyond Facebook groups and a minor political party.
In your proposed system, your taking 13 representatives speaking for 32 million citizens. No that's not a good overall representation. "
We're stuck with a two-house system as it will be almost impossible to abolish the Senate.
I suspect that there are ways to bring the provinces online to adjusting the Senate, but you'll never fully get rid of it. I wish the NDP would give up on that dream, the Supreme Court said it's not possible without provincial buy-in.
You can however change the voting system. Contrary to what the Conservatives have past claimed, moving to a different system such as a Mixed Member Proportional only requires the passing of legislation. It does not require a referendum or a constitutional amendment. If the Liberals and NDP voted on a adopting a new system, we'd have one.
