super spreader event and the RCMP should have put an end to it. You want to protest? All public health orders should have been enforced. From what I saw in the pictures when I read that article, I am sure they all could have been fined for something. Allowing this is only going to encourage more and prolong this pandemic. Where was the MLA for Steinbach in all this to persuade against the rally? This and the schools.......Goertzen is 0 for 2!

I’m curious what our beloved prime minister would say about it. When there were gathering restrictions on and there were protests for the Black Lives Matter movement, he stated that protesting should still be allowed. I’m sure we are all smart enough to know that was because there was nothing else he could say or do without looking like he was against that movement or causing riots at his front door. When should protests “be allowed” during a lockdown?

One protest was in favour of equality, while this one is is for idiocy. Pretty easy to decide which should be allowed.

Any other protests people are wearing masks. Anti-maskers (wannabe trumpers) are actively spreading covid and taking it home with them. Does anyone prefer to wear a mask? Of course not but we need to do what we need to do to get to zero cases in the province. No one likes to be told what to do but if people are being morons I guess the government needs to step in and here we are on code red. All these protesters are going to do is prolong the lockdown.

The Reeve was there. He was charged.

The army and put them under full military curfew. We are under public health orders. There should be no exceptions.

Those who up in arms about that little protest better not be the same people who have problems being in lineups of 50+ inside or outside at your favorite big box store with or without mask wearing. Those are spreaders too, same with any other demonstrations.  
 
No, I do not agree with the protests in general. The only point that I can somewhat agree with is the mask wearing in itself didn't reduce the covid numbers as clearly shown in with Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary and BC. Reducing your inner circle, go for essential trips, stop trying to loophole (which some in Winnipeg seem to done and went to a code orange area) will help get the numbers down. If one is going for a walk, try to avoid areas where there would be a fair bit of foot traffic.  
 
Christmas is a quiet, lonely one for many. Some including myself gave up getting together with anybody since September. In my particular case, the non essential travel ban to the North (where my folks and brother and his family live) did it. Thanks to the few that ruined it for all in advance.

I'm so sick of the poor people who don't want to wear a mask (and don't). Guess what you little princesses, none of us do but you're dragging this all out for the rest of us. I haven't been able to see my grandkids in months and I really hate your attitude that wearing a mask is a big inconvenience for YOU. I read an article from a nurse in Steinbach pleading for you all to do your part and wear a damn mask because they are busting at the seams. It won't be long til more hospitals are full. If you get sick I hope you're prepared to die at home all by your self-righteous self because there's no room for you at the hospital.  
Yes, Palister could've done things better but it's hard to please 10 people let alone 1.4 million. They trusted the people to do what needed to be done but they acted like rebellious children so now we have the consequences. One person at the rally said it's their God given right to not wear a mask...yup, and if you happen to meet him I bet he'll say, so why didn't you do your part to protect yourself and all my people!  
As far as a conspiracy theory... y'all been listening to much to that mighty moron south of the border. Conspiracy or not people are getting sick and dying and you're the problem...not us maskers!! I want my family home for Christmas so I'm doing what I need to do and I feel like it's a lost cause because of the ones who don't want to follow the rules. You're just making it last longer, but you can be proud yourself for making everyone sick of you and your whining.  
I know it's hard on everyone and there's depression and suicides, so again, wear the damn mask and let us all get back to work and shopping.  
The 1918 Spanish flu killed almost 11,000 Canadians and 247,000 Americans, it lasted 2 years. They wore masks and didn't have the health care we have today. We've almost hit those numbers in both countries in just 8 months, just imagine another 16 months. Its shameful for this to be happening in 2020.  
So, give yourselves a pat on the back but don't expect me to thank you for standing up for your freedom while taking mine away.

Wow unbelievable! We will never beat this pandemic with this kind of thinking! I I was always wondering why the Southern District had such high totals of Covid. Now I know. Their own hospital is full and yet they continue to be sickness spreaders. Solution on a personal level is easy for me. I will never go there or support their business places knowing it could possibly kill me and others. Shame on you Steinbach!

These hoodlums are doing a great disservice to their own health, to the health of families and friends, and to their own municipality. Perhaps the business slogan that it is worth the drive to Steinbach has lost some of its appeal.

How can they possibly justify their “right” to gather without paying heed to,possibly, the defining event of the current century.  
 
How can anyone justify a continued risk to the health of the nation is tolerable so long as they can gather in whatever garment, or lack there of, they wish.  
 
I am glad there was enforcement and I hope it steps up.  
 
So long as there is no alternative way to combat the spread of COVID all who choose to flout the established, lawful, and logical regulations should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

The sad part was the one issuing the ticket to the Reeve for violating the Health Order was by a Manitoba Conservation officer. The videos I saw online the "protesters" verbal berated, swore and were just downright nasty to the officer all the meanwhile the RCMP sat in their cruisers doing nothing again.

The situation is Steinbach is very serious. One of SILs works at a Winnipeg branch of an employer based out of Steinbach. She says that people trying to book appointments for testing are facing a 5-7 day wait unless they come to Winnipeg (and they don't want to). A large number of her coworkers at the Steinbach location refuse to wear masks, and management are not sending them home even though they're breaking health orders.

40% will double before you know it if people don’t care. Send in the army I guess? That’s what they’ve done up North.

Message is for tickets to folks in Steinbach going forward, They’re wrong if they think they’re going to get away from the rules and regulations.

up north the Army is assisting in a humanitarian crisis.  
 
Civil disobedience and religious fanaticism are the problems in Steinbach.

Some of us were a little hasty with our judgements on an entire city/community? The bus wasn’t even running yet and the entire city, their businesses, communities around it, their political representatives, their law enforcement, their churches...had all been thrown under it by eBrandon. I certainly don’t agree with the protest and the ideas behind it, but it’s hardly less honourable than many of our premature reactions and assumptions. A few posts in this discussion have added links expressing some balance and I m glad for that. I don’t know how to add a link (maybe somebody could do that for our benefit?) but an open letter from Steinbach area churches appeared on Steinbachonline.com on the 21st of November that may more accurately express the views of the community than what the one church that made all the headlines did.
