Why is the Canadian government not doing more about companies such as Buhler industries that are majority Russian owned.We are sending profits to Known supporters of Putin by not dealing with this.Changing members on there board is not going to change where the profits are going.

What exactly do you want them to do? Would shutting them down work for you? Force them out of Canada? Take all their profits? What about the thousands of Canadians that are employed by them?  
 
What about Brandon businesses with ties to Russian money? What do you want to happen to them? Because there are a number of businesses in town that have Russian money invested in them that would surprise you. Look up the publicly available financial reports from those huge Russian companies and their subsidiaries, you would be shocked how far their influence travels, including right here in Brandon.

This is a tough situation given the high level of Russian investment in property and companies.  
However the longer that this war continues western governments will have no choice but to ramp up economic pressure on Russian Investments and assets. This will have extensive ramifications for employment and our own western economies but we are going to have to do the right thing, suck it up and continue the pressure to force an end to Russian aggression.

I'm all for it. Also the Canadian government needs to do something about all the profits going south to the Americans. It will take a long time for Russia to catch up to all the carnage they have caused in the world.

My point exactly. What a bunch of hypocrites. Why stop at Russia? I have never seen a post on here referencing the countries you mention as well as the Palestinians, Yemen and on and on.

Totally different situations. These were rogue states and regimes that posed a threat to the rest of the world and their own people.  
Ukraine posed no threat, Russia is the aggressor , some might say the terrorist on sovereign Ukrainian land and has ambitions to go further.

A rogue state with a totalitarian leadership that invaded its neighbour unprovoked and used chemical weapons on its own people whom it ruled over with terror, torture and killing.  
Or another one that oppressed women, prevented girls from going to school, blew up ancient monuments, grew and exported opium as a national crop, killed and tortured its own people and incited terrorist acts around the globe.  
This current invasion by Russia not only seeks to destroy Ukraine and its people but sets eyes further afield on Europe and maybe beyond. This is a Russian leadership intent on rebuilding the former USSR and is prepared to drive other parts of the world into hyper inflation and possible food shortages while it does so. A Russian leadership intent on lying to and oppressing its own people in an attempt to maintain public support for the regimes goals and actions.  
This is an aggressive leadership that does not believe in international order or law and is prepared to not only fire cruise missiles into residential areas of Kyiv purposely killing civilians but does so during a visit by the United Nations Secretary General. A leadership supported and financed by the very assets and businesses held in western countries. A leadership receiving money from our own western economies, BLOOD MONEY!

Sounds like you are a little heavy into the CNN and CBC news.  
I watch those as well but also follow others such as WION Gravitas for example. A lot more insight and balance there.  
As far as regimes suppresssing women etc. as far as I know the Taliban are back in charge of Afghanistan and the US could care less. Didn't work out. Too boring. On to the next money making venture.  
And that is ALL this is about.  
I feel sorry for Ukraine being used as a pawn.

You need to watch BBC world news on a regular basis and read some history books that may educate about some of these conflicts and how far back in history some of the underlying issues and prejudices go.  
The only ones using Ukraine as a pawn here are the corrupt, totalitarian Russian leadership.  
If we do nothing now then Russia will not stop at Ukraine . There is no negotiation with Putin. We must help Ukraine to win this war and liberate their country, the consequences of failure are disastrous.

Quite familiar with history books along with the UK and US escapades in the Middle East and other parts of the world. For a start does the UK and US in Iran in 1953 ring a bell? How about the UK and France setting borders in the the middle east at the end of WWI and the resulting conflicts that has perpetuated?  
I also watch the BBC amongst others. I wouldn't want to watch any news source exclusively. Less chance of getting inflicted with that tunnel vision I see prevailing here in the west.  
What I was pointing out in my first post was the utter hypocrisy I see from our governments.  
Of course this war is different. blah blah blah.  
I doubt very much Ukraine can reach any agreement  
with Russia unless it is first approved by the US.

Nothing to do with money. In fact western governments are spending billions to help Ukraine. In supporting Ukraine we are hurting our own economies and increasing the cost of living in our own countries. These are necessary and wholly acceptable burdens for us to bear. Right now Russia is slaughtering and imprisoning innocent Ukrainian civilians. Right now Russia still holds most of those poor people under siege in Mariupol.  
This thread topic asked why our governments are not doing more to sanction or seize Russian investment and businesses in our countries, that is a valid question as those businesses are financially propping up Putins leadership. Seizure of these assets and cutting off some of Russia’s income is another way that we can weaken them thereby helping Ukraine to free itself without us putting boots on the ground. That is a completely reasonable action.

Billions of taxpayer money being transfered to the US MIC via the Ukraine. Do you hear the US calling for peace talks?

My response to the original post was to call out the hypocrisy of sanctions and seizing Russian investments and businesses in our countries.  
I've never heard anyone in Canada call for sanctions on the US for all the death and destruction they have caused around the world.  
Oh yea that was all for good causes you pointed out before. Not to mention the fact the US controls the world's financial system.

Unfortunately the narrative and propaganda produced by tyrannical rogue countries has twisted your logic. Fortunately the majority of people in the west would disagree with your statements and would support further government action to reign in Russia’s leadership and try to bring the war in Ukraine to an end, once Russian forces leave Ukrainian soil including the Donbas and Crimea.  
The United States and it’s allies has done many wrongs in different parts of the world, however without much of that intervention the world map would look very different to that which we know today and many more people would be living under more tyrannical, violent and corrupt leadership.

This is probably one of those very rare instances where you are both right.  
 
Does Russia need to be stopped? Yes, of course we should try. But even so, we can acknowledge there is a hypocrisy here in how we are reacting, and one has to wonder if it's because they're white Christians.  
 
Even how we're reacting to the refugees is riddled with hypocrisy. Refugees are refugees, but we're making all kinds of (very good) exceptions to bring them here quickly and in large numbers. That's a good thing. It also makes you scratch your head at why we didn't do those things for other groups who continue to be in desperate need of resettlement.  
 
This isn't the first time we've done this sort of thing. Look at how we (Canada and the world) reacted to what happened in the former Yugoslavia and Sierra Leone in the early 90s.  
 
We can acknowledge that these things we're doing are good and necessary while also questioning how/why things were done (or not done) in the past. That's how we grow.

I think we need to be more proactive.For example Buhler industries December 2021 Russian investment increased their ownership to 97 percent from 80 percent.They changed a board member that was tweeting Putin cheers.So then they put a Canadian in his place and say they are not Russian ran.All documented in a CBC article.Why not freeze assets and run as a Canadian company.Maybe profits could be sent over to help Ukrainian effort.Our government has not done anything after two months.I don’t want Honest Canadian work force to suffer.But I have problem with buying Equipment or parts from Buhler with present situation.

The Western Producer did a story on Buhler and Versatile equipment a couple of months ago-no, I don't know which issue.  
 
I agree the company is still Russian owned-changing the CEO (or whatever he was) to a non-Russian does not change that.  
 
Here's the thing. Every single farmer can make the decision to not support this Russian owned company. If you don't want to support Russia-don't buy anything produced by Buhler. Regardless of what the government is or isn't doing in regard to companies like this-each of us as individuals can make a statement. Each and every one of us can make the decision to buy a different make of tractor or implement.

If famers decide to not support companies like Buhler, the only thing that will be accomplished is Canadian's, Manitoban's and Brandonites will lose their jobs which in my view is counterproductive. Canada has frozen the assets of Russian owned companies so no money is leaving Canada to Russia. Maybe what we should be doing is supporting these companies and our local workers. This will show Russia what they are missing by causing this world kaos.

Lots of these companies are facing zero sanctions.If you don’t think the money is not getting sent back : fact is it is.Would have no problem if it wasn’t.I would imagine the Russian parent companies are taking profits out a good pace to safe havens while we do nothing about it.They do need to freeze money from going to Russia .

I would support Buhler now. To be honest, if I were working for a Russian backed company, I would resign. That is the absolute truth. Happily I work for a Canadian owned company that is sending financial aid to Ukraine. That is also the kind of company I will buy from.

Harvest time will let us really know what state we will be in. With shipments from the country who produces about 30% of the world's wheat? A shortage is imminent. I wish it were avoidable.  
 
I guess it will be time for The Great Depression again.
