"I sit here as a government representative for film and television in the province of Alberta, and I look at what we produce, and if we're honest with ourselves … I look at it and say, 'Why do I produce so much shit? Why do I fund so much crap?"

Personally I think this guy should be found without a job. His comment wasn't appropriate, but more importantly he could have said any number of things that could have remained critical, but constructive. All the while remaining "honest" to himself. As well he should have fully expected the consequences of his comment, its media backlash, and calls for his resignation. He is after all in the media business.  
 
I think it really shows lack of thought or even care for the industry he is entrusted to guide by the taxpayer.
