are we getting the message

in light of the recent car crash on Bishop-Grandin in Winnipeg that killed two teenagers and has one addition person in critical condition i have to wonder.....is the "dont drink and drive" message getting through? And im not just talking about our youth either. Some one brought up an intresting point on a radio show this afternoon. That point being that, yes, awareness has increased, but enforcement has not. Its the sad reality that we all know the dangers of drinking and driving. But we ALSO know that the chances of us getting caught are slim at best....so what do we do? we tempt fate and 9 times out of 10 we get away with it, get home safely, no harm done right? Well early Sunday morning in Winnipeg when a young 17 year old got into her car after a night of partying she didnt get away with it and as a result, 5 lives, 5 families, including those and their families that survived this tragedy will be forever affected.
How can we put the pressure on our local police services to make the laws even tougher then they are today? How about permantly losing your license on the first offense? Sound harsh? Maybe.....but losing a loved one because of someone else's decision to get behind the wheel drunk is about the harshest punishment i can think of
