NDP Leader Gary Doer promised Wednesday to put 100 new police officers on the street, and add 20 new prosecutors to the justice system. It was the focus of Doer's strategy to make communities safer. Doer also proposed a mission to Ottawa to push the federal government for tougher sentences. This is great news, but presumably with all this heavy man-power, some people will face convictions and Jail time. At the moment at BCI the Gymnasium is full of cot beds for the weekend prisoners, and presumably the rest of the building is overcrowded.
