Another Canadian allegedly attacked in Mexico

I find it very surprising the Mexican authorities are not as co-operative as they can be in these situations when so much of the economy of places like Cancun is reliant on tourism. Have any eBrandonners been to Cancun lately that could shed a bit of light on their experiences there?
