Party Platforms? Aboriginal Issues...
5/19/2007 at 11:19 AM
Recently in the Brandon Sun I had read an article of the candidates speaking to Aboriginal Concerns during a debate at the Brandon Friendship Centre.
Personally, the article was weak and only focused on one issue, which most people would not want to get me started on...lol. (Metis Hunting Rights...long story there!)
I was more than pleased to actually hear or should I say "read" that one Candidate (Cheryl Burke) didn't have "all or any" answers, and answered that she would honestly look into them, if elected.
All the other Candidates had said they were supportive of Aboriginal Concerns or issues and would address them if elected.
Unfortunately though, the paper didn't highlight any of those other than what they said about "Will Goodon's" case before the court. Did this "incident" take place in Brandon?...I don't think so...so anyways...
I would like to give the opportunity for any of the Candidates or their campaigning crew to clarify for anyone interested, like myself, as to what are THEIR thoughts about the Aboriginal people and what are the CONCERNS or platform may be in addressing any issues. Do you see or know of issues that YOU as a candidate would like to mention or bring forward as part of you or your Party's Platform?
I know there are only 3 days left till Election day, so I thought I would at least attempt to bring this up prior to that day, since the coverage in the paper was really "weak" like I had mentioned before.
