They had nothing with their address on it. Nothing. Except an address saying they lived in Souris. No proof of moving. No voter ID card.  
 
They just showed a drivers license with Souris address and were given a ballot. Seems weird?  
 
I think the registrar would have denied them except that we were all sitting so close to her table, practically in her lap and she had a line up waiting.

Too bad the conservatives here are too stubborn to realize that a Harper government is NOT a Canadian conservative government.

Just listened to Mr Mulroney and believe that he summed up the loss quite well, one thing that he touched on was the idea of progressive conservatives as well as maybe a united Canada.

Or we realize that we're voting for a representative of Brandon-Souris, and who ends up as PM is of little significance to local issues.

was really very little difference between Mulroney's Progressive Conservatives and Chretiens's Liberals. Both were corrupt.

You appear to be too young in your profile to remember the previous Liberal governments. In about 1 year you are going to dream of a government that was run like Harper's. But that cannot be a reality for at least 4 years if the Liberals actually have a majority. We are locked in to this "alternative" for that long. My prediction is we will not see a second term, but it will take 10 years to undo the mess he is about to create.

The country has 4 national political parties and the Bloc Quebecois. The idea of any party getting more than 50% of the votes cast is unrealistic, unless it is a total route of all the parties by one political party.  
 
This election is decidedly for the Liberal Party of Canada. The percentage of votes doesn't matter in the first past the polls balloting.

won't change since they won with this format. All of those who want to be in charge will complain about the format, but once they come to power, the existing format is fine.

posted the percentages for past elections, including all of the Liberal won elections in past discussions. And they all showed that the winning party never had the majority of the vote.  
 
And now the shoe is on the other foot, now we get to hear the anti-Liberals cry just like the anti-Conservatives.

As irrelevant as it has been in the past, the percentage of votes cast against the winning party is irrelevant today. It is interesting to see who might be upset by those numbers tomorrow though.  
 
Until and unless we see some sort of electoral reform, what we have is the way it is. Personally, I'm not expecting to see any change.

what I've always been getting at, it's irrelevant. The anti-Conservatives always brought it up in the past.  
 
The opposition supporters will always call for election reform, till their party is in power.

I'm hoping that Trudeau is smart enough to realize that at some point, the FPTP system will be the downfall of his government. If I was in his place, I would get serious about electoral reform. At the very least it could allow him to retain power in some form if there is a surge from the right.

Just want to correct a post above where someone said no government has got 50% of the vote, I believe in 1984 the PC government got about 50.03% of the vote.

It was in 1958 with Diefenbaker's Progressive Conservatives. In other words, it's rare.
