Banning Handguns in Canada
4/10/2008 at 4:02 PM
Toronto Mayor David Miller yesterday launched a national campaign to try to persuade the federal government to ban handguns, pleading in a YouTube video for Canadians to sign an online petition.
The renewed push, which is to see Mr. Miller personally deliver the petition to Parliament Hill in June, came yesterday after his executive committee heard more than three hours of testimony from the public in favour of restricting handguns, including emotional speeches from the family and friends of Torontonians recently killed by bullets.
The idea, long publicly supported by Mr. Miller - who wrote to the Prime Minister last month to press the case - has been repeatedly rebuffed by the minority Conservative government of Stephen Harper, which says its focus is on the illegal use of guns. But Ontario's Liberal Premier, Dalton McGuinty, is in favour of a ban.

Does anyone else find this premise that keeps coming up, that banning law-abiding citizens from owning handguns will keep law-breaking citizens from owning and carrying handguns? I am getting sick and tired of this nonsense from these types.
