Canadian beef producers are being discrimiated against by giant fast food restaurants. A&W has quit using Canadian beef so it can advetise no hormones used in raising hteir beef. By the way the lettace has more hormones than the burger.  
Mcdonalds has started using foreign beef to lower the cost of beef .  
Canadian beef producers welcome competion, but this foriegn sourced beef does not have to follow practises mandated by our govt. Canadian producers can only use approved antibiotics, chemicals and animal husbandry stanadards. They have to compete with countries with no minimum wage, no husbandry guidelines and less stringent health guilines.  
Next time you are at Mcdonalds or Aw ask the manager if they have Canadian beef raised under Canadian Healthj standards. The answer will be no, but we advertise no hormones used in raising this beef.  

Why can't more Candaian beef producers produce hormone free beef for A&W? And what hormones does lettuce have?

I don't get it. So what! Who's beef is in the burgers. Why people mentioned about canadian products than they go away on vacations in the states. Going US wouldn't be supporting canadian because you are spending money over there with USA gifts you buy, foods, and places you go your money will go to USA businesses and staff so why not book your vacations anywhere from west to east in canada and your money will stay in Canada.  

A&W has been claiming hormone free beef since 2013. This isn't anything new, just an advertising campaign.

Facts are probably coming from Facebook and other reputable sources.

wonder too why more Canadian producers don't jump on the band wagon. If the consumer wants hormone free or whatever lets produce instead of resisting it. I am a livestock producer.

I have organic steroid free cattle raised on certified organic grass land. And the are for sale I would be happy to sell to fast food chains  

McDonald's uses Canadian beef. In fact they are working with Canadian beef producers right now to come up with guidelines to certify the beef as sustainably produced. They are planning their marketing strategy to combat the A&W misinformation campaign by emphasizing the fact that it IS Canadian beef. Google it.

As for A&W not sourcing Canadian hormone free beef.... they never asked. There's lots out there but they didn't make an effort to find it. Not that hormone free means anything beyond a marketing gimmick anyway.

w no hormone beef is an advertising ploy. The amount of hormone in the beef is neglible but uninformed consumers beleive the ads.

They wont llok at small producers.

Packers will say there is a market for the product but don't seem to be chasing it. Feedlots prettywell all use hormones to improve feed efficiency and to reduce days on feed, which is supposed to show up on your bottom line. I'm a we bit sceptical about some things though, we put cattle in a custom feedlot and the gains were terrific, but when we got the kill sheet back on the carcasses we weren't impressed because the number of choice carcasses really increased, and there is a discount for choice animals.  
 
My concern about foreign beef would be more along the lines of the imports into the US, if they have big imports it reduces the price in the US which lowers the price up here.

Ive included an article which explains hormones in beef. This is a marketing ploy that ignores the facts. As the article stated the bun has more hormones than the burger. Cattle will not reproduce without hormones so how could they be hormone free???

So the cattle have their own natural hormones, but none added. Also, A&W says they get some of their beef from this Canadian ranch http://springcreek.ca/ so they have not quit using Canadian beef. You should really get your facts straight.

Ive included the article that says you would have to eat a years worth of burgers to equal your regular production of hormones. I have no problem with Aw sourcing no hormone added beef but suggesting it is better is a complete lie. I dont use added hormones on our herd but when they go to market they are mixed with other cattle so they are considered hormone added cattle. Buy using this advertising ploy Aw excluded 99% of Canadian cattle and suggest that they are not as good as their Us and single Canadian supplier.

After some research I have found out it was Mcdonalds US that was sourcing beef from South America. I stand by my thought that Aw is using junk science to claim No Hormone added is better than regular beef sourced from Canadian sources. Misinforming the consumer harms all beef producers by leading to lower prices for domestic producers.

A&W is not claiming that no added hormone beef is better. They just advertise the basic facts that there are no added hormones. http://awguarantee.ca/en/faq/beef/  
 
It's all marketing, McDonalds already has 100% Canadian beef and Wendy's is never frozen, everybody has their own way to be special.

Most Canadian market beef doesnt meet A&Ws "requirements" for "no hormone added". They get most of it from Montana and Australia.

McDonald's buys their meat from a COMPANY called 100% real Canadian beef but it doesn't mean it is actually Canadian beef. It's a marketing ploy.

Sure A & W doesn't have `added Hormones' in their burgers, but they put enough salt and seasoning on their burgers to kill you. Last two times I was their I couldn't even finish the burger or onion rings for the salt. Haven't been there in a few months though, maybe its changed.

No, I'm not really concerned where my beef goes after delivered to a packer, bur I do get concerned when I look at the burger business and the amount of product they handle. It's pretty hard to find the stats on beef imports into Canada, or else I'm not looking in the right place, but importing beef does really affect our bottom line. We are in an industry were there's no chance of outsourcing and you farm in the area that you are located, and cost to our business is priced on domestic costs. I think that other people might get upset or see our point if they faced similar situations, A point I could make is if a large number of businesses decided that wages were to high, would it be fair to just open the boarders and allow immigrants in to work at wages below minimum wage, now I guess people wouldn't complain as long as their wages didn't drop, but just imagine if your wages did drop.

I have an idea....why don't you get your burgers at a restaurant that buys local beef?
