Heart surgery questions
10/25/2008 at 8:37 AM
My father, who is 80 years, has had a heart attack. He was hospitalized for a week, going through a battery a tests.
He was transported to St. Boniface hospital for a echocardiogram, results show that he needs a pacemaker and two valves replaced, the aortic valve and mitral valve.
His history includes having his aortic valve replaced 8 years ago in London Ontario with a tissue valve...this valve now needs replaced.
He spent several days in ICU and then on the medical unit. He has now stablized.
There was discussion that a pacemaker would regulate his heart and that he would be going to St. Boniface for this within the week, return to hospital and be on a waiting list for the valve replacement.
As of this morning he is now told that he will be discharged and he can go home today....no surgery performed at all.
My mother is beside herself, and frankly I'm worried also.
Why would he be sent home? My sister has a call into a doctor hoping to have some kind of reasurrances.
Does the heart work in such a manner that he can wait for these surgeries?
We are all very confused.
