We need to have proper food labeling. For years, the food allergy and celiac communities have waited for legislation that would require all food package labels to clearly list priority allergens and gluten among ingredients.
For those with these conditions, knowing exactly what they’re eating is vital. Not knowing can result in a life-threatening reaction.
The federal government has developed very good regulations called: The Proposed Regulatory Amendments to Enhance the Labeling of Allergen, Gluten Sources and Added Sulphites.
The problem? They’ve stalled from moving forward into law.
In July 2008, the government promised these regulations would be made law following a review process with stakeholders. Early this year, that long process wrapped up. And still – no final regulations, and no law. Worse, there is concern that if these regulations are not enacted soon, the whole process will have to begin again.
It’s time we let the government know – this situation is unacceptable. I have a nephew and a boyfriend who have deadly allergies to peanuts/nuts, eggs, seafood and fish. I know that’s allot to take in. For us preparing food for these people can be very stressful, even when you have called manufactures to insure the safety of a product. This is why: ALLERGY ALERT UNDECLARED PEANUTS IN CERTAIN MISPACKED QUAKER BRAND CHEWY GRANOLA BARS VALUE PACKS

I am so sorry that this is such a long post, but I think it’s time I take this issue public so people with deadly allergies can have the support they need.
I am posting a link and it would mean a lot if everyone who cares would take 2 min out of the day and sign this petition so we can have proper food labeling. It's almost 2011 and we need to get with the times. Just imagine if your 3 year old baby had an allergy and consumed a product that had come in to contact with the allergen and got sick or worse yet died as a result, I know that is a very morbid thought but maybe it will put it into prospective for you all. Thank you so much for your time. And again please support those of us who deal with this.
