good ending, rough and stressful journey

Also I'm glad you had a good experience Flutterby. In my early stages I also was able to take a more natural course and go off the meds . Now, I will be on them for life. The reality for those with advanced disease or Graves disease is most likely not ever be able to repair the damage and go off meds.
It would be wonderful if this disease was treated earlier and thru a more natural approach but it just isn't happening for the average patient. " |

Madge, at least you are off of those meds.
The synthetic meds take over your thyroid's function and certainly do not help it heal so that it can function properly again. They keep causing more damage instead of helping.
I did get a doctor to prescribe ERFA and when I went back she was surprised that she agreed to it...weird, I know, but she did it! She is not a doctor that I would ever recommend by the way as she was not good. I don't think she is even in the area anymore anyway.
Ah...my husband reminded me that I threatened to go off the eltroxin altogether, and so she prescribed that. Shortly after however is when she pushed me to go to the endocrinologist and told him to convince me to go back on synthetic meds. He said that they were great friends...hmmm. That is when I went to the naturopath and got the Thyroset.
It is worth a shot to push...and if not that doctor, try it on another. It is your life, your body. It is not worth gambling with. If you cannot get a doctor, go to a natural practitioner of some sort.
I was told I had to stay on them for life. I was on straight eltroxin for 7 years. They kept wanting to increase the dose (I only let them do it once). Yes, those drugs do damage and far more than they will admit. I had full out menopause symptoms and a miscarriage as well as fertility issues, no loss of weight and more...all confirmed as possible complications by the endocrinologist...funny that, when taking a "safe medication" at a "safe" dose...and that was with a med with a "better" track record.
Since I have started speaking up, I have heard of folks that ended up getting one additional diagnoses after another because of those drugs. It is never ending.
I feel that when this subject comes up and people are searching and asking for answers, that if I can help point them to a better quality of life, then I have an obligation to speak up...and so I do so.
