re: FINDING Employment Harder When You OWN a business???
1/31/2010 at 10:26 AM
This was a great post by Rita which had expired. She had been applying for work and received not a single call back or reply back. Rita, I totally agree with your post. I own my own home based business as well and am finding it very difficult to find work to supplement my business earnings.
I am a graphic artist with many years of experience under my belt and a web designer as well. It is very hurtful when a company applied to cannot be bothered to phone or send an acknowledgement of an application. Worse yet when they pay to have 'only those considered will be contacted' included in their job advertising (online and paper) and a person meets all qualifications for the job advertised yet does not receive an interview. They are left wondering were their references bad? Were they NOT qualified enough?
In this day of email it costs nothing to mail out a reply to the applicant. Emails can be created and saved but not sent to be used over and over again!
My main concern at the moment is the flow of my resume which was chronological until I began my home based business. I now have a huge gap in my 'work experience'.
I do not feel I should have to hide my business for it shows motivation and hard work ethics on my part. A very valuable trait for an employee to have!
Have you run into this as well, Rita?
