Hi my name is Lindsay, I am the coordinator for CLER (community led emissions reduction) program for Brandon for both community and municipal. CLER is a 4 year pilot project funded by the provincial government that started back in 2008. The program is community based and structured as a 5 milestome frame work.
1. create a Greenhouse gas inventory
2.Set a target for greenhouse gas reduction
3.Develop a climate change action plan with public input
4. Implement GHG emissions reduction projects from the plan
5.monitor the progress and results
Goals of the program is to work with municipal governemnts and community organizations to engage the community and develop projects and incentives that will reduce GHg emissions by 2012 and contribute to long term changes that contribute to sustainable, thriving communities.
The City of Brandon and the BNRC (Brandon Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation) are participants of this program.
Because this relies on public input i would love to hear your thoughts and concerns of environmental programs within the city that already exist or that you would like to see in your community.
For those of yo uwho live or have a business in the BNRC district you may have received a postcard that tells you about the program and has a link to an on-line GHG calculator www.greenregistry.org you are strongly encouraged to fill it out as you are eligiable to win prizes! even a bike! the BNRC zone is from 24th street to Franklin St, from the assiniboine river to Park Ave.
Please do not slander anyone's posts.
If you have any questions about the program please give me a call at 729-2493
