Hey are closed for extreme windchill and poor road condition not just because it’s cold

Got the call that no buses outside the city for Brandon School Division- schools open and buses inside the city are going

At what temperature and in what dimension does BSD take into account the safety of the kids standing and waiting for the intown school buses? This is ridiculous. If I keep my kids home(parental discretion as they like to encourage), and the teachers give out new assignments or assign homework then my kids suffer the barrage of doing all that extra work because I chose for them to be safe. Come on BSD, take a stance for the safety of our kids.

The minute amount of potential extra homework should not be a real hardship

It’s not just about the homework it’s about what the other kids get taught that gets missed by those away. I totally get it as we are out of town so my child potentially misses a lot of the buses don’t run for a few days. I usually allow my child one day at home but then scramble to get other arrangements made if it’s longer than that. Dropping her off myself is not an option

So you would like that bsd closes all schools? You have way more unsafe situations that way. Lots of families have both sets of parents working.  
If you are that concerned about your child missing a day from school and getting behind with work, email the teacher and I’m sure he or she will send you what was done that day.  
 
It sounds to me that you just look for reasons to complain about the bsd.

If there are a large number of kids absent new assignments are rarely handed out. Teachers tend to go over previous materials and reinforce for the ones present. If you are so concerned make arrangements and get your kids there. Not safe in those yellow tin cans on rural roads

I sent my kids yesterday as I could drive them in (we’re a 7min walk to school but I don’t want them walking in these extremes). My daughter’s class had 9 students and all they did was play games. Pretty much just daycare at that point. Today I can’t drive them so I let them stay home. I’m sure they won’t miss much if it’s anything like yesterday.

Everyone has opinions on keeping their children safe. There are also many times parents keep kids home with warmer freezing temps than we have now. Why should students that show up for work have to wait for those that didn't? What happens when you are not at work? I know for me work plies up and needs to be done in extra time to make up. I guess the students that miss school should have to make up assignments if needed.
