Just curious, anybody see any wood ticks out yet? Does anyone know if it's okay right now to take a hike in the Brandon hills area without being covered in ticks? Any advice or knowledge is appreciated!

We went for a walk last week up to ACC, I had one and so did the dog..

Lots of ticks. Dress accordingly cover up.

Had 3 on me this weekend camping.

5 off the hound from walk in Brandon Hills. 2 off the wife

Ticks are DEFINATELY out now! Personally, it does not stop me from outdoor activities at all. Just do a thorough tick-check when you get home. Using a tick repellant also helps. Here's Manitoba Health's info on prevention of tick borne illnesses:

My mother lives in the Brandon Hills area and the wood ticks are so THICK that they are litterally crawling up the sides of her house! You can walk threw her back yard and end up covered in them. It's NOT just long grass that you can find them in, they also use the wind to fly threw the air using their flat bodies to soar in the breeze, then land on you! I was out the other day on the cement patio and was nowhere near any grass or trees and I found a little bugger stuck to my shoulder! Now every time I go out to the farm, I get itchy just headed there! HA HA HA! I'm deathly afraid of any bug that sucks blood.....you wanna see a grown lady flip out like a toddler and loose all controll of her body.....put a tick or leach on me....LOL!

Here is the recipe for my tick and mosquito repellent :  
You need:  
2 oz spray bottle  
20 drops Geranium Rose essential oil  
10 drops Eucalyptus - Lime essential oil  
6 drops Lavender essential oil  
After you added your essential oils to your container, fill your bottle with Witchhazel to the top.  
Shake well before each use and reapply it every 5 hours.  
So far, it has protected me throughout the whole summer (knock on wood) it is also safe for small children and pets....I never use Frontline on my pets, too many nasty chemicals! Hope this works for you!
