Severe Thunderstorm Warning

As per Environment Canada, a Severe Thunderstorm warning has been issued for Brandon at 4:34pm for a storm that is approaching from the Southwest.

Earlier some mobile devices received a Tornado Warning alert for "this coverage area" and Brandon's emergency sirens went off. As of now Environment and Climate Change Canada's Weather alerts page for Brandon does NOT have a Tornado Warning in place for Brandon itself but it goes without saying that this is a storm to be taken seriously and the Severe Thunderstorm Warning does caution that Severe Thunderstorms can produce tornadoes.

The sky just opened up. Pouring and pouring and wind is really bad in Minnedosa. Lightning and thunder.

So much for the Brandon Alarm System they keep testing. Alarms going off , tune into local radio stations and all I heard was music then they went off the air

the lack of media in Brandon is a detriment to its citizens. At least we have Adam!

I got a warning on tv. My phone didn't give me a warning notice, but I did get a notification.
And right after warning system alert over the speakers there was an alert for tornado warning. First time I have heard the sirens in house. Just happened to open window right before it went off

But yes alert goes off, go to radio and radio goes out.

TV is no longer a true way any more with so many people cutting cable.

There is no good way to alert everyone. Unless everyone gets a weather radio that they run on batteries.

Looks like close to four inches. Just west of Brandon on Roseland road. Can see it out the window. Still raining pretty good. Some small hail off and on.

Very quickly because have some stuff to take care of around home, but:

-do not go out unless you absolutely have to. Many areas and intersections are an unpassable mess even at this hour and have been baracaded of. Don’t get brave with big puddles unless you have to. Take it from me, that’s not necessarily just rain water you’re walking in

-the water seemed to have gone dow
-puddle joy riders are awful. Saw one truck mow down a baracade to get to a puddle only
To come around again for a second go. At the same location one bystander noted that it was the third pass for one vehicle. Please think of your fellow citizens, in many cases the puddle ripping is forcing wave action and people’s houses that have basements already full of water.

Anyone considering going for a drive to understand what this much water does to a city, please wait a couple hours and I’ll have some photos edited up and posted.

Another fair sized round underway now, and as Homestar mentioned more concern for what's behind it another hour or two. Best can do is hope that it decides not to trend in the direction its trending with the strength it appears to have right now.

My brother and I saw a car attempting to go down Sycamore Dr. and it started to float. They got turned around luckily. Also another risk with driving down flooded streets is that you don't know where the curb is and any obstructions that might be under the water. Never know if water pressure lifted a manhole cover off.

Just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you to the man who pushed my car out of the flood on the 3500 block of Centennial Drive! You saved me a $70 tow and a car full of panicking passengers with water coming up through the floorboards of the stalled car. Thank you!!!!

Anyone thinking of taking highway 1 just East of the City, don’t. Major overland flow over the road both East and Westbound in the area of the Brandon welcome sign. Use 110 as of now both in and out of the city to avoid a major headache.

Statement issued by Prairie Mountain Health this morning re the hospital:

Brandon Regional Health Centre (General Centre)
Basement level water damage

During the storm on Sunday, June 28th, Brandon Regional Health Centre experienced flooding in the basement level. Several departments were impacted, including Pharmacy, Materiels Management, Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) and Nutrition Services.

Elevators at the Health Centre were shut down as a precaution. The elevators have all been inspected and are now back in operation.
Staff worked through the night to clean up the water and minimize the damage. Clean up efforts will continue today.

Scheduled surgeries and endoscopy procedures are cancelled for today, Monday, June 29th as a result of water damage in the Medical Device Reprocessing area.

Designated patient visitation will go-ahead today, Monday, June 29th from 3 pm – 7 pm with the same guidelines in place.

Fairview and Hillcrest Personal Care Homes also experienced some flooding. As a precaution, indoor and outdoor visits will be cancelled for today, Monday June 29 as clean-up efforts continue.
We thank the public for their understanding as we work through the process of getting all departments back to full capacity.

With rain that's fallen and rain that's forecast, the Province has issued a Flood Warning and High Water Advisory for the Southwest, Western and Central regions. Levels are however expected to remain below flood protection levels...

Rapid City tornado

Environment Canada has confirmed that Rapid City has a tornado on Sunday:

Just looking at radar right now and not a terribly big fan of the system crossing into Manitoba from North Dakota. Warning now in place in the extreme Southwest for an area that includes Melita. Strong wind gusts and up to toonie hail. The warning says its heading Northeast at 40 km/hr. Obviously these kinds of things have the capability of changing but Brandon would be looking at a potential impact in a couple hours or so at that rate if it does.
