Winter storm warning - 15 cm
2/6/2010 at 9:35 PM
This was issued earlier this afternoon, but thought it should have its own thread.... we're now in the middle of as much as 15 cm of snow falling in the area. Drive safe folks...
---------------
15 cm of snow over the next 24 hours with local blowing snow on Sunday.
This is a warning that dangerous winter weather conditions are imminent or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions...Listen for updated statements.
A trough of low pressure will bring snow to Southern Manitoba. Snow is already falling over portions of Central and Western Manitoba, and will begin in Winnipeg and the Red River Valley late this afternoon.
In general Southern Manitoba should receive about 15 cm of snow over the next 24 hours, with higher amounts in upslope flow along the eastern slopes of Duck Mountain, Riding Mountain and the Manitoba escarpment.
On Sunday, strong northerly winds gusting to 60 km/h are expected to develop behind the trough. This will produce blowing snow giving poor visibilities, especially in the open areas of the Red River Valley from the Manitoba escarpment east.
The snow is expected to taper off on Sunday and visibilities due to blowing snow should improve Sunday evening.
