I'm not sure the income gained by those who clear snow would offset the overall losses caused by missed work and vehicle damage, to be honest. Not to mention the massive cost of clearing the snow that the city has to cover. " |

That's short sighted - it's not only those who clear snow that make money off of the snowfall. The ski resorts in the area have had next to no snow the past two years, people with their snowmobiles are finally able to get out and play (and those who sell and service them are back in business), and anyone else who makes money off of the recreation involved in snowfall can finally recoup some losses from the past two years. And yes, those who pick up a shovel (hoping there's lots of kids in neighbourhoods who still do this) can make a few bucks too!
Although - with the level of the river on freeze up I can't say that I'm not concerned about the precipitation either. But we can't really control it, and I really do feel that those who rely on it have been without too long. Hopefully the dyke system is ready to rock if this continues... otherwise these "floods of the century" are going to become the floods of the every couple years, which would be awful.
I could do without the clearing of it too. But hey, if it's gonna be winter we might as well have snow to play in.
