I googled this issue but didn't help my understanding.  
 
Since Christmas I can not get my pictures to load on to my PC. They have before, same PC same phone for last year. I do not use itunes when i do upload the pictures. I just go to photos and import device files.  
 
I have updated phone about a month ago and it would not transfer. so i updated it again this week still nothing.  
 
A friend said hers is doing the same.  
 
Anyone know how to get them to transfer in layman's terms or better yet in 52 year old non techie terms.

You could always get a free Dropbox account, upload from 'phone then download from Dropbox to your pc.

If you updated your phone it has screwed up everybodies photos. My mom went from 2,000 to 14,000 photos because it quadrupled them.  
The best thing to do is call APPLE CANADA they will go into your computer and do it for you or do it step-by-step with you over the phone for free.

If you give them permission they can also go into your phone and help you with that.

Your iPhone may be taking photos in the "HEIF" format instead of the traditional JPEG format. While HEIF format is smaller than regular JPEG, it's also not compatible with a lot of computers.

Also, if you have a Gmail account, I recommend downloading Google Photos, that app will automatically back up all your photos and you'll be able to access it from anywhere, whether it be your phone or computer.

An issue that I have had previously was having a poor connection between my usb cable and usd port on my laptop. For me, the only fix I needed was a stronger cable that was in good condition, and trying each of the usb plugins on my computer until I found one that decided to agree with my phone.  
 
As well, it could simply be a driver issue. If you google a tutorial on how to update your apple drivers, that might help. You could also try using iCloud to store your photos. I don't use it personally but you don't need a cable, it just transfers over wifi.

I am sat at my PC right now having the exact same issues. Only way I could resolve it was to log in to my iCloud on my PC and download them from there. Only my internet is ridiculously slow, so I guess I am going in to work early one day this week to use the office PC and faster internet. When I plug my phone in to my PC, often it won’t even show up as a device and when it does, I can’t see all of my photos. Technology is starting to get ahead of me!
