virgin mobile??

I just bought a new lg rumor 2 at future shop the other day and have had problems ever since. I have activated my phone online and given my credit card info and it will still not let me sign into my account saying it does not recognize my mobile number. When I programmed my phone it also did not work so I had to call into customer service twice to get them to let me reprogram it. I am still unable to send or recieve texts (error code 97 is the reason, whatever that means) however I can make phone calls.
Has anyone else had problems like this with virgin? I was planning on just doing a prepaid 20$ texting plan but I am now wondering if it would just be easier to go with mts (as I already have an mts number and account).
