I got a letter in the mail saying they were switching me to Telus. I'm being impatient for the welcome package to show up, and was wondering if I actually have to switch to Telus. Was looking at their plans and don't like that they don't have an unlimited data option. I don't want to switch and would rather stick with MTS

While its true Telus does not have unlimited data telus is honouring the MTS customers who do have it plus are giving a $20 bill credit I believe for 3 months.  
 
So basically fi you choose to you will keep the unlimited data on telus for the same price you were paying MTS.

From what I understand is that you don't have to move if you don't want to. Where I live, I get really shitty service from MTS. It frustrates me that I have to pay every month but still have a hard time making calls from my house, unless I go outside or stand like a flamingo in the south east corner of my living room. I hope I never need to make an emergency call because I can rarely make a call that doesn't drop every 10 seconds. So I welcome the change. If telus doesn't work out, maybe I will make the jump to rogers.

The coverage will be the exact same about 95% of the time as all of the carriers share towers now and basically have the exact same coverage map, possibly with slightly different types of technology or terminology.

I called Telus and they are supposedly putting up more towers in Manitoba

Hubby got his package. He upgraded phone for free, will get $60 back over a few months and package is slightly better. We also added a home phone for $10 a month. Service has been better than MTS so far. I am anxious for my letter. They looked up my number at Telus and said I am on the 2nd wave of offers. I can't wait to upgrade and move over.

Got my letter last week and welcome package yesterday. I wasn't pleased about having to switch to Telus at all. According to both MTS and Telus, who I spoke with you do have to switch, no choice on the part of the customer (which is bs in my opinion). My theory is as soon as your contract is up and you want to enter into another contract you're free to go where ever you want, or buy out the rest of your contract if you want out sooner. After having gone through my welcome package it seems this might actually be an ok deal, as long as the service is comparable to MTS...which in my opinion hasn't been great lately. They are going to honor the unlimited data and all the features I had under mts for the same price...for as long as I want. Also giving $60 off for every phone in the house (over the first 3 months) . I'll give it a try , really doesn't sound like I have much to lose at this point. When I'm ready for a new contact I'll re-evaluate my options, but I'm very glad that I'm able to keep unlimited data for now.

I had to switch to telus too and my signal is consistantly stronger and speeds are faster than mts. (I'm in bdn)

Can you switch on your own and still get the deals? How long does the process take - I noticed one post said they where on the 2nd wave? Thanks

Well I am not sure how the speeds could be that much better on Telus. Maybe you just hate MTS as much as I do and are relieved you no longer have to use them?  
 
Also I doubt you can switch on your own and get the unlimited deal since they don't offer that. However if you were even half ass good in negotiating its probably not that hard to get them to extend that offer to you if they actually want to be a growing business in Manitoba.  
 
Last you don't HAVE to switch. You don't have to do anything. They can't force you. That'd be like Shaw telling me "hey buddy you got to get Westman now we don't want you anymore".  
 
Selling MTS to Bell they were told and agreed to sell about a quarter of MTS monthly contract wireless customers over to Telus. So basically they are telling about 100,000 to move to Telus. You don't have to go to Telus but I have heard they are offering some pretty sweet incentives to their new customers coming over. Again if you are half ass good at negotiating you could probably score a pretty sweet deal.

Do not switch to Rogers. The last two weeks the signal strength has been absolutely terrible. I've had dropped calls at home, on 1st Street and on 18th Street. I stopped at the Rogers store and they were blaming MTS for playing with the towers. They changed settings on my phone and said the tower problem should be rectified shortly. A week later and it's worse. Yesterday I called Rogers tech support from home and I had 2 dropped calls while talking to the tech. He tried resetting my phone and my tower settings but didn't do a thing. Apparently the tech was escalating my issues to have someone check the tower. Like that will happen. Rogers was so good but the past /+ weeks has been awful and is effecting my ability to complete my business.  
Wish I could switch to Yelus and give them a try. Can't be any worse than Rogers or MTS who I was previously with.

I also got dumped over to Telus. After a quick phone call it's all straightened out and I get to remain with my contract at MTS.

I too am a switch to telus victim. My contract with mts has expired and don't want to switch to telus. I would love to sign up with mts again but am angered about mts selling me out. I just don't know what to do. Try telus,or get a new contract with mts.

They have different waves of packages being sent out so that everyone isn't trying to switch over right away. Why not switch though?

Do you have to do anything to stay with mts or just do nothing?

That's the exact opposite of what I was told...I was told that I had no choice ...by both MTS and Telus....I specifically asked if I HAD to and was told YES...guess I'll be chatting with them again tomorrow ... I'm not convinced MTS is where I want to be either, not happy with them at all...but being told that I'm now a Telus customer, has ticked me off too.

I have talked to an MTS rep at one of the stores and one on the phone line and I was told that I will lose the phone number I have had since 1995. I have till July 22nd and after that, my phone will no longer have service and I will no longer get a bill.  
 
What I was told by the instore person is after signing with Telus, I can then move to MTS and I "may" be able to bring my number with me. They would not say this for sure.  
 
Telus has told me that I can keep my current plan which includes Unlimited Canada Wide data but when I questioned their plans, they told me they do not offer any form of unlimited data. The other aspect is the rest of my family are still with Bell MTS so if they call my cell phone with theirs, they will get charged long distance.  
 
Now maybe it is because my contract had ended in May and I am free to go where I want but to keep the phone number I need to go to Telus. I have had this number for so long and all important contacts have this number, it will be a pain to change it.  
 
Maybe I will switch to Telus for 3 months and save the $60 then go back to Bell MTS. Get something for the pain of being booted off the island.

Telus doesn't offer any Unlimited data plans to regular customers but it looks like in order to keep the NEW former-MTS customers, they've allowed them to keep unlimited Data. They stated it will be "for as long as you like", but unfortunately in the future once you get an upgrade, they will require an "in market plan". If they didn't maintain unlimited data for the forced customers, they would've likely had a large amount of customers trying to go BACK to (Bell) MTS

I stopped in at Rogers on Sunday because of the problem you are having and the person told me to switch to 3g and did works perfectly.

If you do nothing it will transfer to Telus. The first letter is to inform you, nothing else has happened at that point. Once the welcome pack arrives I think that's when the transfer has taken place.

Got my welcome package that contains new Sim card and a couple of cardboard drink coasters  
My plan goes to unlimited north American calling from unlimited Canada wide and unlimited telus to telus vs mts to mts. Unlimited Canada wide data stays the same  
Have till July 22 to switch over to get the $60 off  
My guess is they cant switch you unless you use new Simcard

have Total Internet with MTS and I have not gotten anything stating a change over to Telus. Since Telus doesn't have internet in Brandon I assume that this will be the only way to stay with MTS. I have TV Internet and 2 cells with them so I think I am safe. Based on what I am reading about this you keep your old number. Also it states there is NO PENALTY for cancelling contract.

We are 3 miles out. Had no signal service with mts and rogers unless strategically placed in yard.. bought out my contract and switched to telles (Koodo) before all this. We have had great signal strength and great customer service every time we have dealt with them. I would recommend them to anyone on the fence

ONLY customers that should be moving are cell contracts ONLY. So if you have any other services and are getting switched let us know.

bell/mts as they were doing the take over was that for the most part those that were being switched/given to telus were those folks that were past their contract date.  
So as your business was at risk, cause you now own your phone and your off contract you can where ever you want. It was those clients they gave up to telus.  
 
so you get switch over to telus on a month to month with your own phone, dont sign a new contract with them. When you get annoyed with with telus, you can switch back to bell with the same phone.  
 
They all now have open monthly contracts if you bring your own phone and number.  
 
watch carefully the map area of coverage as they are not all the same. I don't know about cell tower sharing, as Telus's map only shows #1 highway at the present. Bell and Rogers show the entire province as covered for the most part.

Just renewed my contract a month ago and got the letter.
