Got the calling orders to switch over to Telus from BellMts in the mail last night.  
I have until December left on my contract. Does this mean I have to buy out my contract to switch back to Bell from Telus? Or is there a way to keep from getting switched over?  
 
Has anyone had any success dealing with not making the change?

to change from BellMTS to Telus. I called BellMTS to ask if I have to change over and was told that I have to go to Telus and discuss with them, explain my reasons for not wanting to switch, and then in a week to 10 days Telus will advise if I can remain with BellMTS. Haven't gone to Telus yet to "plead my case" to stay with BellMTS.

Why not switch? We just got a 2nd letter for our other cell. Switched over the other night. Got new phone, same package, better coverage and $60 off over the next few months.

The incentives to switching are quite admirable.. I haven't gotten the letter and I wish I could switch over. I looked into switching voluntarily and unfortunately they won't do it unless you buy out your existing contract and start new.

When I received the welcome package last month, I called the Telus number and told them that I didn't want to switch. Gave them the cell number on the account and the rep I talked to just asked why and I said that it was an accounting nightmare to get things set up with a new carrier. That was it, haven't heard anything since. At work, we did the same thing, got the welcome package, called to say, "thanks but we're happy with our current provider". That was it...haven't heard anything since. From what others have told me, going to Telus or BellMTS seems to be where the problems are....calling seems to give you the best access.

Got the package and will not be switching. Everyone I have talked to around our area gets little to no service with Telus.

Our service is better. My wife can actually make a call while in the basement of our house and I can actually send texts from inside the building at work.  
 
We were told there is multiple waves so still possible that you might get one

If you still have x months remaining in your contract, moving over to Telus essentially means that Telus bought out the remainder of your contract and you'll be going Month-to-Month with Telus until you decide to upgrade. So, if you decide in 3 months that you want to go with Fido or Telus' sister Koodo, you'd have the option to do so, and your phone is immediately unlocked as soon as you're moved to Telus so you can keep your phone when you move to another carrier if you decide to.

My wife got the letter, and wasn't going to switch. A couple days later her S5 crapped out. Still 4 months left on her contract. Told her to call Telus and try and make a deal to switch. All said and done, she got an S8, they paid out her contract, gave her $100 for her broken phone, plan is now $5 a month cheaper and it cost less than $100. Less than it was to buy out her contract with mts. Then to get an S8 wold have been $300. She is mostly in Brandon and her service is better, mind you the phone upgrade might be helping. But check it out, see what you can do

I made the switch and actually am really happy with it. The service is much better plus I got an iPhone 7 plus for 0. Not sure if everyone qualifies for that but unsure of why everyone is SO against switching. The package from MTS to Telus was the same.

You should double check it was switched over. We were told sure no problem give us a couple days, 3 weeks and 6 calls later we finally got confirmation we were switched back to bell mts.

Hmm, interesting....I'll double check to be safe but I think everything is fine. I spoke to a Telus rep and then he transferred me to the technical support guy and as far as I know, everything is good to go? I think he said bellmts would be in touch though

I was considering switching when my contract is up (I remained a BellMTS customer) because Telus does have some fairly interesting plan options. But I'd have to switch TV and internet as well and that'd make the total cost about $40-50 more a month.

I received my letter and welcome package weeks ago. Today was the last day for me to switch over and still receive the $20 off per month.  
 
I had calls, emails, mail from TELUS about the switch over and finally decided to stay with Bell MTS. This is primarily due to the free cell-to-cell long distance, which if I switch carriers and my friends/family do not, someone will likely be paying more.  
 
Today, I called the 888 number on the TELUS welcome package to let them know of my decision. Quickly my call was picked up. After a brief conversation, the lady on the other end of the phone told me my contract was purchased by TELUS and there was nothing that I could do. She stated MTS was no more, Bell bought some contracts and Telus the others. I disagreed as I knew her facts were incorrect and then hung up on her.  
 
Next, I called Bell MTS to find out what was going on. After sitting on hold for about 15 minutes, I got through to a Customer Service person. I explained my story and she asked which TELUS number I called initially. Next, she patched me through to another TELUS Rep. I explained my story to this new TELUS REP and was told my account will now stay with BellMTS.  
 
The learnings from this story are that there is plenty of misinformation out there. If you don't want to switch carriers, there are ways to not move your contract over to TELUS.

You can contact bell mts and ask them if the "checkmark" is taken off the account yet. If that checkmark is still on your account, your account has not been switched back to bell mts.

I ended up getting a voicemail from mts bell today saying they received the msg that I'm staying with them and thanked me for my service.

Unrelated but Rogers is now offering 10 + 2GB plans (including tethering) for $75-80, Rogers will never be able to compete with the Unlimited data offer Telus is providing MTS customers who are moving over, 10+2GB isn't bad.  
 
Rogers' US Roaming package is only $5/day while Telus is $7 (unlimited data does qualify for it).  
 
Telus does have a slightly better network, especially along the Trans Canada where they have a tower every 5 miles, but now they use (Bell) MTS' network everywhere there's no Telus tower, so service will be identical there (now). My Bell iPad is still roaming off of Rogers in rural MB which I found strange.  
 
I've heard some people go "I don't want to go with Telus because I lose my MTS to MTS minutes" - the Telus plan my mom got from transitioning to Telus included unlimited Manitoban calling, so it didn't matter anymore.  
 
Will MTS portion eventually get access to Telus' towers? Possibly, but Rogers customers won't unless if it's forced roamed onto Extended Network.. and that's unlikely.  
 
I haven't sold cellphones in years and I'm glad I don't sell cellphones anymore, but there's so many places in Manitoba that there should have been a tower put up years ago like at Highway 10 at the Rivers exit, something closer to Spruce Hills, better tower at Riding Mountain, better service around Portage, and towers in Cromer and Waskada instead of roaming off of Sasktel/AT&T.
