Can anyone give some unbiased advice about the non-MTS wireless providers? I have been with Bell since they came here, but have been extremely unhappy with both device service and customer service the last few months.  
 
I want a new phone that completely removes MTS/Bell from the equation. Is anyone currently using Rogers/Telus and having good results?

The service is sometimes spotty, especially on the #10 north until you get to Minnedosa, and south for quite a ways, though this could be because of the hills. The customer service is wonderful, however, only if you call in and talk to someone that way. I wouldn't recommend talking to anyone in the Rogers stores in Brandon, as you get conflicting information from them.

I'm guessing that all the companies are using the same infrastructure, towers, etc. - but I have seen a marked drop in signal quality since the MTS merger. I used to have full bars almost anywhere near Brandon and now I can't get full bars ANYWHERE. Call drops, data errors, etc. - and according to a few friends on FB, this is not an isolated thing.  
 
I kind of wonder what the point is of having 4 different providers if they're all selling the same service with the same problems.

I have an older (i.e. second hand) phone with Rogers on a pay-as-you-go. I have good service everywhere in town, out to Shilo and back, etc. Decent service all the way up to Riding Mountain, up through Rivers, etc, along the TransCanada from Winnipeg to Regina, up through Saskatoon. Drops off in Spruce Woods, which is unsurprising.  
 
That's pretty much everywhere I've been with it. I don't use it for voice very much, and data not at all, mostly just texting.

Rogers. I was with Rogers for many years. They ripped me off and refused to fix the problem even though I had bank statements proving I paid them. Switched to hell and never looked back.  
How old is your phone? Since I upgraded my phone I have zero connection issues. It's much better then my old broken phone.

I was on of those people who got switched to Telus. Its not as good as MTS at my apartment and north of Forrest. When I was in The Pas for the Long Weekend, it was the pits. I look forward to May which I will be off the contract.

I have been with Rogers for 22 years-oversll very happy with the service. Coverage is good-i've used my phone Brandon minnedoa Neepawa Shilo and Boissevain and usually have see. Used to use my phone a lot South of town and had no dead areas except the odd spot where the road went behind a hill-honestly did not lose service on 10 south.

Why not fido?have had nothing but great service area service on mine. Plans are comparable and customer service has been good too. Way better coverage when travelling than any others I've tried

I have had a great experience with fido and have not had any major problems with connectivity. I use a fido SIM card in a no-name Chinese phone.

I know Bell owns Virgin, but i have been with Virgin for around 4 years with 0 problems. Great customer service, always help me. I have the 55$ a month plan, plan comes with a new phone. Only issue i have is that you can go far far from the trans canada (is where there towers are). I can go as far north as Neepawa and signal is down to 1 bar, same if i travel south around Glenboro.

i have had bell/mts and rogers AND telus. i had a company phone and a personal phone at the same time for the last 8 years. the last 1.5 years i had both rogers and telus phones at the same time they both went everywhere with me i went. I travel for work and went to ever small town in mb and sk. drove all the way up to flin flon thompson way up north in sk. my rogers phone(which by the way shares its network with mts/bell) lost service all the time. i also drive to clear lake every weekend and always lose service on my rogers phone. my telus phone has literally barely ever lost service and always had far far superior service then rogers phone. I would be in the middle of no where and have service on telus and rogers would have lost service hours ago. i had telus before it came to town because i had a winnipeg cell phone number.

I just made the switch over to Telus this week. I've not tried the phone much outside of Brandon but in terms of customer service, I had tremendous service and support from Erin S. at the larger Telus store in the mall.  
 
Once I found out I was one of the customers who would be making the switch (it took a few weeks for me to get the welcome package), she worked with me and helped allay the concerns/questions I had and really took service to the next level (responding to an email outside of work hours, for example and spending significant time looking into things on my behalf).

PS. I did not know Erin prior to first speaking to her in store two months ago.
