Yes Brandon needed this...but let me be the first to say it... They chose a wrong location. I would suspect they will open on a restaurant site pad near Wal-Mart.

Traffic flow in the Corral Centre and on Kirkaldy is already ridiculous at times.

That traffic flow will take time to get used to. In all honesty though, empty parking space costs money for maintenance, so for every dollar of unused space, the developers lose money for the cost of upkeep, so I am not surprised to see more and more stores pop up.
I for one am thankful and excited to see another locally owned business open up that will offer more jobs to the local workforce

Why would anyone allow more buildings to be put up at Corral Centre...other than the obvious $$. That whole parking lot is a mess, is was poorly constructed in the first place, it is not pedestrian/wheelchair friendly, and the traffic is unreal. I have actually called Shindico twice over the last few months about the potholes being filled, so maybe instead of filling the potholes, they will plunk a slab down and put up another building. Good for local business, but I question the location.

What I would love to see are more restaurants like Original Joe's, Mr. Mike's, State & Main - something in between the Keg & Applebee's.

We've been wanting a full line Dairy Queen for a long, long time. Corral Centre area could use a drive-thru restaurant. Probably no more than twenty to thirty more cars per hour,if that. So, shouldn't cause any more traffic issues than already exist.

The address given will put the new DQ in the corner of the Safeway parking lot, right beside the three-way stop. ...Not the most visible spot from Eighteenth street, but they'll have the lights and be a few steps closer to the Discovery Center. All I can say is... Poof! Another bunch of parking spots gone and more congestion within that bloody maze they call a shopping center.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

These threads make me laugh. Everyone on her complained about Harveys and that going into the Sobey's parking lot. Now they have been open I don't seen any parking problems, there are always places to park. I can bet right now if you drive by Safeway at the corral there is ample parking available. There are the lights right off the parking lot to allow traffic to leave. Really I am in the south, I will go to dairy queen on park. Even at that location there is always parking. At least this give people on the north hill an ice cream place to head to on hot days.

that 3 way is a horrible place to put this restaurant. Its next to impossible to get out of the MLCC at that stop sign, trying to turn into or exit the lane at Western Financial/Chatters is very tight and most drivers take up the whole lane, so only one vehicle can get in or out. That place is a mess. Bring on more traffic and don''t do a thing to make it better...Go Shindico!...

I'm happy as well to see DQ Grill coming to Brandon. Also, it would be nice to see something drive thru / fastfood go up east of 1st street, either on Richmond or Victoria

I've said to my spouse for a number of years that a fast-food place would probably do well near the corner of 1st and Vic or 1st and Rosser.

I think along as Walmart is around, the new DQ will do fine.

Laird Lidster did announce to open a DQ restaurant and he wasn't asking people's opinion on location. He has been in the business for years I would say he knows what he is doing.
One of his most challenge more than location may probably be hire and keep staff

There is Velvet Dip at 8th and Victoria. There is also Tastee's near 1st and Richmond. Both of which are better than DQ by far.

Nice to see a local entrepreneur investing time, energy and financial capital in our city. Those who don't like the location, traffic, visibility, etc. are certainly free to make a similar investment at a superior location.

Not sure where you got that from reading their post but okay. If that is the case there is even more year round "grilling" places to choose from in the East end.

Not Safeway parking lot

According to this old application on City website 915 - 18th st North is the SW corner of the Walmart parking lot across from Dollarama. At the time this was started it was expected to be a Boston Pizza, and they must have decided against, and went up on the North Hill.

Would have liked to see it back in the corner of Wal-Mart lot near Ashleys but I will adapt to change. That road between Wal-Mart lot and dollarama can be a nightmare getting into at times as customers leaving and coming to walmart/dollarama come thru there. To have a drive thru entering/exiting is going to cause a bottleneck. Would like to see th 3 way stop a little further up opened to a 4 way stop which could help some of that.

60 plus restaurants on 18th street in a general area from north hill to richmond ave now 1st street we 9 from top to bottom and 3 of those are part time

so in theory they need more in the east end of town

Long long (long) time coming. I know Corral traffic is a pet peave for a lot of folks, but this is about putting a drive thru burger and ice cream place in the middle of a spot that already has a lot of potential customers coming and going... local and also still very reachable from highway for a quick touch and go. Would have to be seen as a bit more of a risk dropping one too close to the immediate South area that has McDs, AW, BK and now Harveys all within stones throw... not to mention competing with self on the ice cream side at other DQ locations. I‘m just one of thousands of potential fickle customers but their burgers have never gotten me excited personally on price vs taste bud vote...... but having their ice cream at that spot will be gangbusters and I’m sure the fast food will do well.

re 1st St area, agree that from a services point of view that area could use this sort of thing but suspect there’s good reason from a business case point of view that we’re in the middle of a time that’s seeing a gazillion new food options opening up and all are wanting a piece of 18th St. You could also make the case that Victoria Commons in the West could use something along these lines if/when it gets off the ground but the entrepreneur is going to commit to the spot they feel has best chance of business success and am sure there’s a lot of thought and data that’s gone into this being the spot.
