You might want to rethink your condom example lol. Especially because people AREN'T following that advice and some regions are essentially experiencing syphilis outbreaks. Because, like masks, while imperfect, condoms do a decent job of protecting people from disease.

Also, vaccines alone are not enough. Health Canada has been very clear in their guidelines. Maybe someday, but not yet. We should all continue to mask as per their recommendations.

Actually it's an awesome example. People who choose not to get vaccinated are catching COVID and a much higher rate than those who are. Vaccinated people the percentage is extremely low of catching COVID. People who don't wear condoms are catching syphilis appearntly. Like I said if you guys want to drive around by yourselves and shop with your mask on fill your boots but stop bashing those that chose not to.

This isn’t about you, Abbysmum or myself. It’s about doing small things to best protect those around us, our close contacts and those that we love. For most of us these are very small sacrifices that we can make for the benefit of everyone else.

Just blows my mind the only affecting me attitude of so many. Fabulous that you got your vaccination, maybe you dont have children or your children are all old enough to receive one so your whole family is protected thats great glad you did your part. But why can't you continue to wear a mask briefly indoors for a few more months so the other 200k+ children 12 and under who cannot be protected have a leg to stand on?

The more we look after one another the better long term outcome we will have. Not just short term but long term as far as less strain on Healthcare dealing with long term symptoms that can last for how long? Many of us are awaiting surgeries that have been seriously impacted by covid, many missed diagnoses and on and on.

On an related/unrelated note its great the FDA has finally given pfizer vaccination full authorization as of today!

I wear mine when out. Had to double back to the house yesterday when forgetting mask at home.
I think most of us are saying, wear your mask but don't have a s-fit when you see others, employees included not masking up. Go home, wash your hands, use sanitizer, most stores are still providing bottles at the exit doors.
Don't "out" stores where you have seen employees not wearing a mask.

You have no idea of the effect of covid to either myself or my family. Don't assume anything.

You are the one ordering us to do something that the government does not mandate. You do not have any right to do so. There are many options available for those that do not want to be around mask less people. If you aren't yet, I suggest you start taking advantage of them.

It is a requirement if you are positive for HIV or AIDS. Not a good analogy. It is only a matter of time until mask wearing is mandated again.

You could enlighten yourself by turning on CNN tonight and checking out the situation in the U.S. currently. They dropped their masks too and where are they now? No ICU beds available in many states, twice vaxxed people contracting Covid, schools closing, a record number of children in the hospitals. It goes on and on. I suggest YOU start taking advantage of the information that is available. Pallister is a fool. If the CDC, WHO, renowned scientists and doctors worldwide are telling people to keep wearing masks then who are you to defend the opposite? I choose to listen to experts, not politicians.

Besides, mask wearing was law, then it wasn't, then it was, then it wasn't. Think for yourself for a change and do for others for once.

I have the right not to wear a mask. Nor am I doing anything wrong.

If you feel your life is at risk...do curbside pickups. Or better yet...stay at home.

Have we forgot the fact that wearing of a mask in public is not about protecting me from you, it's about protection you from me. Especially the way people have been wearing their masks lately. Wear a mask but pulling down with 2 fingers every time you want to speak. If you breath in and covid is in the air, it's now on your mask. Touch the mask or pull it down, you now have covid on the hand. The mask is to stop the water droplets from me, entering in the air. I wear a mask to protect those around me because I care about others. If you chose not to wear a mask then it's all about YOU and don't care for anyone else. How sad is that (you).

Just putting it out there... The masks also protect you. They work best when everyone wears them.

Covid, it's becoming increasingly clear, is at least partially transmitted via aerosols meaning it can be suspended in the air for an extended amount of time. This is a big reason why masks need to fit correctly, to filter the air and why outdoors (good ventilation) tends to be inherently less risky.

It's estimated that the Delta variant is about as contagious as chicken pox. Those of us who experienced that all know how contagious that is!

Masking and case numbers

Attaching a few daily case data graphs from Google search results that really put into context the opportunity we have here to control our own destiny.

Manitoba has generally been a few weeks behind most provinces in cases, waves, etc. In that sense we've had a sort of advantage over others in that we can have a pretty good idea what's coming and prepare accordingly. The graphs below show new case counts for the provinces to our West, with BC, AB and Sask having clearly gotten into at least the beginnings of their next wave. Our graph remains pretty much flat for August, though with our last wave having ended more recently than the other three it would be pretty naive to think that within the next week or two we won't see a similar bend of some type upwards into another wave just as the same virus is doing in a similar pattern in the three provinces to the West.
Because it takes a few days for acquired cases to turn into cases and more time still for those cases to be detected and show up in test results it's not at all unreasonable to suppose that beginning seeds of a next wave might be being sewn right now. Clearly there's no reason to panic or we would see different guidance from public health officials from what's in place during our current "Yellow" state and clearly masks are only one part of a much wider picture.... but with it having been established time and time again that masks make a meaningful difference in tamping down spread of the virus it just makes perfect sense to me that folks are doing everything they reasonably can right now to help make sure this community and province are as ahead of the next wave as we can be as we get ready to send kiddos back to school in two short weeks.
While based on what I've seen when I've been out and about there seems to be the odd exception depending perhaps on store or time of day or pure randomness, it's been encouraging to see a pretty high percentage of folks voluntarily still wearing. While that's going on it's been encouraging to see vaccine rates continue to tick up even if that rate has slowed lately (Brandon is showing as just 0.2% higher in uptake vs a week ago).

glad to see people wearing masks when grocery shopping but.... today there was a woman opening plastic baskets of fruit to check each piece. Yuck!

Myself and others who choose to educate themselves and act accordingly should stay home so the selfish of society can continue looking out for number one?

You won't do the right thing unless forced to by mandate.....amazing how a few words can completely sum up the character of a person.

Indeed. If I didn't have to work retail, I wouldn't.

It really is amazing how fast everything backtracked. In cases, the carts and hands are still scrubbed to an inch of their life, but the most important factor, the respiratory protection . . . meh.

It should never have been lifted we need to protect the children under 11 .
Too bad they did not say immediately instead of having to wait for another announcement for time.
They did say indoors only though including all schools.
They are also expanding the list of activities and services that can only be accessed if an individual is fully immunized and has vaccine card.

They plan to tell us when masks are back at some point in the future.

B.C announced today that masks are mandatory effective tomorrow.

Why does this government continue to be half assed in their response to the pandemic? Make it effective at 12:01 tomorrow morning!

My take away is they are trying to give us all a break by cancelling mandatory masks because the covid numbers did not warrant a mask mandate. As Dr Roussin said they are closely watching the numbers in the country. Manitoba has traditionally been delayed in covid numbers/waves compared to other provinces so it gave us a chance for a reprieve. We are not at the point where mandatory masks be required and he has said he wants to pre-empt this 4th wave so is giving us a heads up to prepare for another mask mandate coming later this week.

Dr Roussin is a smart man and from what I've heard from people/nurses who have worked with him, a very conscientious individual with our best interests at heart. I can guarantee that he is making the best decisions he can based on the information he is being presented with.

VTB- the only time you can truly critique their decisions is when you are sitting at the table with the team when they review the data and make their decisions.

Anyone who criticizes their decision, like you, is doing so half assed because they do not have all the information
