Speakers for laptop?

Wishing to get laptop computer speakers as a gift for a family member, but I have limitations.
- They need to be little, as they are for a very small space in a tidy home and need to fit into the decor.
- My budget isn't huge!
- They will just be used here and there to enjoy better sound than from the laptop.
Any suggestions as to particular brands, where to get them or look for them would be very helpful.
Myself, I have $19.99 budget ones and they suffice for me, but I know they aren't the greatest. And the short cords on them are not the greatest as they are at my feet and cannot even sit uptop on a desk (am I missing something there?)
I would so appreciate any suggestions for my gift of small, decent, easy on the eyes, good price speakers for a laptop that basically sits in the same spot all the time.
