Washer & Dryer Advice

Looks like our old washing machine is about to pack it in...just wondering what you all recommend these days...seems the technology has changed a bit since our last purchase.
Front load? New top load with no adjutator? Old school?
We are leaning towards the new top loads without the adjutator...
Any lemons out there? Interested in your opinions!
