I wonder if people have opinions as to which of the "hair colleges" they prefer to use.  
 
Money is a bit tight right now and I should not be putting out the $150+ my regular salon charges for a perm (I have long hair and bad straight roots right now!!)- I figure it is time to give a student in training a shot.  
 
Just looking to opinions as to which of the places is a favourite and why, how attentive the instructors are, is there one that seems more professional over the other, etc.

It's the only one I've been to, but I've gone a few times. The instructors walk around to supervise and offer guidance, and the students will stop and ask for help when they are unsure. Anything you get done will take significantly longer than a regular salon visit, just as a heads up. I would definitely recommend trying them out, they learn something new, and you save money. Win,win!

I have used colleges in other cities so yes, I recall how long it can take. Better they learn and take it slow I figure.  
 
That said, my regular hairdresser is not the Flash ...I am used to that.

Make sure you get a good quality perm solution in your hair, the schools need to keep the cost down so they use bulk perms that may be harsh on hair. If you have long hair be cautious about it being damaged by the process.

they never told me that about the quality of the perm or color they use.

That's a lie about the cheap perms, when I've gone in the past, they have multiple kinds of perm kits with the different types of chemicals needed for all different types of hair, they do a small test beforehand and pick the right one for you that will not damage your hair. And I have seen the kits, they are the ones that only professional salons can order and I've seen them being used at other professional salons that I've been to in the city, no difference of quality.

I go to Systems on 13th and College. The instructors are great and check every step. Great prices too

I prefer H&Co since the renos. Beautiful atmosphere and normally good service.

it could be same brand package but it doesn't mean it is same quality.

I have long colored hair and this is where I go for my perms- I have had spirals(around the $100 and 4-5hour mark) and regular perms too.  
The staff is great and its comfortable. They are also open later on thursdays I think

I have always wanted to do a spiral perm but my hair falls in to nice spiral like curls when done anyway. Good to know others' experiences with both places.
