Anyone know where I can get an assortment of tile pieces to make an outdoor table? Would prefer the Mexican tile type or ones with some sort of pattern or design but would be open to any ideas?

You can scour garage sales for bright and colourful dishes, smash them up for your own tiles and pattern, glue them down and clear gloss paint over top to seal.

The CMHA Refit Store on 12th between Pacific & Rosser had tons of tile generally last time I was in there. Upstairs in one of the corners. I can't remember what all was there, but I'm sure the selection changes all the time.  
 
Alternatively, you can try places like Home Depot, Jenkins Flooring, etc sometimes you can buy open-stock tiles.  
 
My mom and I made a tile table years ago. I had to leave it behind when we moved last time as I simply couldn't take it. I sure wish I still had it sometimes!

I went to the re store first and you are correct they have hundreds of tiles. Problem is they are mostly bathroom backsplash type with very bland colours. I am looking for very bright colours or styles with a design. Trying to make a Mexican style table.

LOL, I do distinctly remember there being pink tiles there, but that was awhile ago so I assumed maybe something different had come in.  
 
If you're looking for something specific, you're probably looking at a flooring place and buying end lots. That what we did, mostly scrounging stuff from clearance sections. It took time, but I think we paid less than $10 for tile when it was all said and done.  
 
Or possibly online someplace like ebay, although you may pay a fortune for shipping simply due to weight.  
 
Or try going into Winnipeg and doing the ReStore. It costs me $60 in gas to go to & from Winnipeg, so you would have to factor in that cost vs. ordering if you're making a special trip.

It is very difficult to get the type of tile you want. I have been puttering at mosaic for several years and dispare of finding what you want locally. I find doing mosaic is a long term affair, you always have your eye open for prospects. Ideally you just go out and buy what you want. In reality it may take years to collect suitable tiles. As a previous poster said dishes are good but you then have the problem of keeping everything level as these pieces are seldom flat. It is a problem you can work with but harder for a novice. If this table is to be outside be sure to use something like Silicon 2 to stick on the pieces. It is weather proof. Good luck.

around to the hardware stores and flooring stores, they may have left over from job, some boxes damaged, etc.
