that would be just rude to the poor cashier who obviously has no choice but to tell you they don't take visa. I don't think the cashier that you are giving a whole bunch of extra work too (who likely works at min. wage) made the companies choice to not accept visa. "

I really don't think that a cashier who stands on his or her feet all day and deals with rude customers all day, would not find that in any way great. I can bet the cashier is not thinking about job security or ot, they are thinking about the idiot customer who just caused them a pile of work. "

Its not the cashier's job to put everything back, they have people to do that. Do you seriously think the cashier would close their till and run around the store finding where everything goes? Or maybe you thought they would have to stay after their shift and put it back? Pretty ridiculous. "

Jackazz - I don't think that. I know they have people to put stuff away. But in the meantime you are probably getting a line up of people who are annoyed and a cashier that can't do anything about it because some Jackass is being an idiot shopper and knows darn well they can''t use their visa, but waste everyone's time.

By the way, I always used my visa their, now I make sure I have enough cash, or can use their debit machine. I can always transfer onto my visa, if I thought that was what I needed to do.

It is not the cashier's fault.
Get on Wal Mart site and start bombarding them with e-mails if you want to do something.

The nasty business of doing business.
This fight has been going on for a while, and for anyone interested here is a link to maybe what started it.

As stated above Walmart is not always the nicest corporation to do business with, and when the American people were being reminded how bad the Communist system was, Walmart was busy buying products from that country, causing a loss of jobs in their own country. I'm not going to say what Walmart does is completely wrong since we do live in a capitalist society, and to be a true capitalist you do business with whoever.

Another company that suffered from Walmarts idea of capitalism was Vlasic pickles, another one of the situations of you do business on our terms or we don't do business.

In a way this action against Visa is likely a move to get even with them, sometimes business is nasty, and in this case the customers who use Visa are being punished.

if you really want to use your visa, transfer some money from your visa to you debit and pay debit at Wal Mart and you sill still have the bill on your visa. easy peasey!

between those two is like choosing whether you'd rather have a cold or the flu. They're both equally terrible.

As for Wal-Mart, no worries, they'll be able to shove most of their conditioned pigeons onto a Wal-Mart Mastercard.

As for me, I'm taking my business to K_Mar...oops, I meant Zel-oh wait, I mean I'm going to shop at Targ...I give up.

I find it entertaining that this seems to bother so many people, yet everyone seems to love the idea of Costco coming to town, when Costco only accepts MasterCard.

Maybe being caught in the middle between two heavyweights isn't so bad after all? Visa is offering a $10 credit to cardholders "who register their card and then make a purchase of $50 or more at a grocery store in Manitoba":

This is not a good idea, as it is a cash advance rather than a purchase. Cash advances start accumulating interest right away, rather than the end of the billing cycle, and often come at a higher interest rate than normal purchases.

Plucked this from the terms on the signup page:

[i]"Grocery Stores include physical retail locations that sell a full line of food products and are identified in the Visa Systems by Merchant Category 5411. Excludes: convenience stores and specialty stores that sell a limited selection of food. Offer may exclude purchases on prescription drugs, alcohol, tobacco, lottery tickets and postage"[/i]

I take it to mean only full-fledged grocery stores like Superstore, Heritage Coop, Sobeys, Safeway. Only guessing that Shoppers Drug Mart doesnt quite fit that description but if anyone knows more please share!

If you were to do this with groceries specifically produce,meat, dairy, etc. It would get thrown in the Garage. You would just be wasting food that's good for no reason. Is it really worth it to do that ?

A lady in front of me the other day used a visa to pay for her purchase. I am guessing it's a debit card that also doubles as a visa?! Not sure

Likely a TD debit card, it has a Visa icon on it for compatibility with places that don't take Interac outside of Canada

Visa has a sweet promotion in Manitoba - you can get a $10 credit on your next VISA bill if you register your Visa card & spend $50 (in one transaction) at another grocery store. CBC, CTV & Global News & Winnipeg Free Press all featured articles telling about it. Some exceptions, not grocery items mainly, and someone said that stores which aren't primarily grocery stores would not apply. Check out their news articles released November 3rd.

Walmart for no longer excepting Visa. I now save a bunch of money and receive points at superstore. We won't mention that visa paid me $10 for shopping elsewhere.

will stop shopping at Walmart...who is living on credit cards anyway? Like are you literally transferring your entire paycheck onto your VISA every 2 weeks? Do you really care about the 5 visa points or 120 points or whatever you get...that basically works out to like $2 on a $200 purchase. I've racked up 70,000 aeroplan miles and it's cost me $50,000 in spending to do it and what can I get? I can get 3/4 of an Ipad mini, $50,000 and I can't even get an ipad and you've got yourself all turned inside out over your points on a $200 grocery bill?
Absolute silliness...Walmart will win, Walmart is Visa's CUSTOMER and they'll cave.

I buy everything on credit card, then pay it off each month. Amex gives me 1.5% on everything I buy, and my Mastercard gives 2% in a few select categories. That $50k in spending would be worth $750 in my pocket, it's a heck of a lot better than nothing.

70k Aeroplan miles would be worth a round trip to Hawaii, plus another round trip to the continental US. Using Aeroplan or Air Miles for travel is a much better rate of return than using it for merchandise.

This is basically us too with our MC.... credit cards arent just for people that need to carry a debt. 95% of what we buy all the way down to car and house insurance is run through the credit card and paid off without any interest expense for the points. Points are used against pretty much any travel expense you've run on your card without any extra fees. Once you get into the system of doing it this way it's throwing money away to do it any other way.

As mobile payments become more and more common, credit cards are only going to get more common as the conduit between merchant and customer.... which is why this battle in little old Manitoba is actually a pretty big deal with wider reaching implications.

On another note, Has anyone really noticed a drop in customers at Walmart?? It's Xmas time now so will be hard to tell but it's been super busy the times I've been there. Was in one in Wpg this past weekend and it was nuts!!

Especially in places like Brandon and Portage where shopping stores are limited, I really dont see too many people not shopping there ever again. Like others have said, Costco only takes mc and I don't think they're hurting either...

If you signed up for the offer did you receive your credit? I just looked into mine and had nothing yet, checked and they said they had no record of an eligible purchase. Produced/ copied my receipt and they confirmed valid so they have to do manually and will take a few weeks. Not sure what happened, my store purchase was Sobeys.

I registered all four of my Visa cards, and got all four credits the same day I made the purchase. (Or the next day in the case of Co-op) The other three were at Safeway.

Did you get an email verifying that you registered your card? It comes right after you enter the info, it said something along the lines of "you are on your way to earning your credit".

All I know is I was happy to take advantage of the credits. Never shop at Walmart to begin with so it was easy.
