Renting a car for 10 days in the U.S. Some say to buy the insurance here before you go. What exactly would the price be here compared to there for 10 days?

To your autopac agent. $15 fee and I think it's about $3-4 per day for your rental.

On top of the dollar being so bad right now, they have some very slick salesmen at some rental companies that can trick you into anything....  
 
We got a free "upgrade" to a BMW once when we went to Vegas and we had not pre purchased the insurance, thinking we could use our Avion card insurance (it is really not enough coverage, BTW, it leaves you with no liability or company loss of use coverage so the rental company can really screw you if you have even a minor fender bender in their cars). The guy told us verbally it would be $30 total for the rental for the insurance, but hidden in the fine print it was actually $30 PER DAY. We rent in the US a lot and have never encountered that trick before.  
 
Best be safe and just buy it here - you know exactly what you will get.

Be safe and buy it here! It's cheaper and superior insurance. I wouldn't chance buying it there as there are hidden fees, fine print that may not cover you for certain things etc.

Charged us $72 for 8 days in Florida.

Has anyone found an agent up here that will sell coverage for Mexico?

Well I just came from Dick Agencies. It's definitely not four dollars a day . $7 per day plus $15 dollar fee. 10 days is $85. Don't know what it is in the U.S. ?

Well I just did a mock Herz rentals out of Vegas and they want 26.88US per day. It would be 268.80US for your 10 days vs your 64.60US you paid at Dick. Over 200us savings.

Is it any wonder then that in every city the insurance and bank buildings are the biggest and most impressive of all .

I had a rental for 2 weeks and it cost me $71. That is $15 fee and $4 per day. Even at the price you paid, guaranteed it's a lot cheaper than what you'd pay in the states.

Where did you get this rate. I am U.S. bound next week and MPIC rental car insurance is $15 fee + $7 per day. I would like to know where I can get it for $4 per day.  
BTW, don't rely on credit card insurance or most rental car insurance. they cover there own vehicle (most including loss of use) but don't cover what is called 3rd party. What that means is, there is you, the insurance/ rental company, and other driver is is the 3rd party. Basically, if you get into an accident and it is deemed your fault, you have no coverage

The MPI rental car insurance is $2 per day (plus $15 policy fee) if you're renting in Manitoba, $4 per day if you're renting anywhere else in Canada and $7 per day if you're renting in the States. You can get the insurance through your Autopac broker before your trip and it's great coverage - $100 deductible and $5 million third party liability. It's a no brainer - get it before you go!
