$100 a day one day a week - where can I sign up for that. That would be more than minimum wage. In Manitoba it's about $11/HR and most places don't work past 8hr days so that would only bring you to $88 but then there's deductions on top so you'd be lucky to take home $60 in the end - guesstimating. Unless your a contractor or involved in some sort of trade pre-retirement and still know some people in that work force that would be willing to bring you in on odd jobs, I don't know where you'd find someone to pay you $100/day without deductions and for your service one day a week. If you do find something I'd be really curious what kind of work that would be. Keep us posted on what you find and good luck

Hmmmm...... Let me see if I have this right . People are struggling to make ends meet and yet this place called final escape or whatever which I have never even heard of are willing to pay people $13 an hour to play games ? I work as a security guard part time at which sometimes it involves a lot of responsibility and I make less money per hour . Wow.

Are you complaining that this employer is paying their staff a "decent" wage?

Confused ? Maybe you're confused but I'm not . Read the post again where did I say I was complaining ? I was just basically comparing the wages for the two different jobs ! As far as a decent wage goes it's not even close to a decent wage .A decent wage would be $20 an hour but that's not gonna happen in Brandon . I was basically surprised a gaming guide for all their responsibility would make more money than a security guard for their responsibility .

What kind of work are you looking for? Are you capable of hard physical labor?

currently take home 150/day. Will soon be retiring and would love to supplement my pension with $100 per day 1 day a week-if you find something and they have extra jobs at that please let me know. I am expecting I will more likely have to work somewhere 3 days a week for minimum wage, but as long as I enjoy the part time job I am okay with that.

If we look at the rate of inflation and the way people are willing to live off the contributions of other and not contribute themselves, 20 years from now when I'm supposed to retire my 30/hr won't even cover it all. Not to be a debbie downer but unless you are really set up financially or can come up with that million dollar idea we'll all die with our work boots on. Retirement will be a word of the past, sigh!

First off to answer "love my girls" question am I capable of hard physical labour ? I am in my early 60s and worked the past 30 years so that I would no longer have to do hard physical labour . Could I actually do it ? Damn straight I could but why would I want to at this point in my life when I could actually use my brain instead . I agree with the person who stated that we will all die with our work boots on and that retirement really is just a dream unless you have an enormous amount of money in the bank . I will find something eventually . I already found one part-time job I just need to find another one .

Would love to find a 1-3 day a week part time job. I have a class 1 with clean abstract and about 20 years driving experience in Canada and the USA.

In a reply to the question what class of license do I have? I have a normal class 5 clean abstract drivers licence. When I was much younger I used to drive a courier van for a parcel delivery service company . I called the car dealerships inquiring about car deliveries . They still do this but only once in a while and they only pay eleven cents a kilometre. So a trip to Winnipeg and back would probably net me about $40 . I told them to put my name on the list in case one of the regular drivers got sick and that I would go if they called me .

Try delivering pizza. When I moved to Brandon I didn't know the city very well and I thought the best way to learn the city and get paid well to do it was to deliver pizzas. I very quickly learned the city and met some very wonderful people along the way and some nights I made well over the $100 cash you need. Try Pizza Hut. It's a job i used to only see younger teenagers doing but lately I've seen older and older folks doing it also. Tips can be great.  
You might also want to talk to several of the automobile dealerships about driving a shuttle van to shuttle customers back-and-forth to the dealership. I know many retirees do this.  
Why not call the Brandon bus lines or Brandon airport shuttle folks and see if they need someone to operate a shuttle to and from Winnipeg airport once a week.  
Another idea since you have a clean drivers abstract would be to contact Hallcon- a shuttle service for the railways.  
What about getting in touch with some folks from the egg industry I know a lot of farms don't have enough manpower but can't afford to hire someone full-time and a part-time fit would be great to drive tractor, herd or feed cattle, mend fence, maintain equipment etc...  
If you're in Brandon you could also contact the Brandon school division and see if they have part-time custodial work. I remember when I was young in Winnipeg one of my babysitters would take me to the school on Fridays and she would work a few hours after school to clean it up and get ready for Monday.  
I see many retirement aged folks pumping gas part time, cashiers at the grocery store, or even at Walmart.  
Spring is around the corner, a time for new life and new beginnings- you'll get it.  
What are your skills? Maybe you can capitalize on your skills and work from home?

I make a decent wage now but I started at the bottom and stuck it out for many years. People seem to want to be given everything RIGHT NOW!  
Work hard, be loyal, don't job jump for a quarter and put in your time. That is how it works.  
As for a one day job for $100.... I am sure they are out here amongst the labor jobs.

Once again I can't believe how many people don't read the actual post . Popcorn twist is giving me a lecture on how to go about getting a job . Did you not read that I am retired in my 60s and I have already worked at a job for 30 years which is probably a lot more than you have . All I'm looking for is something I could do one day a week to supplement my pension income . I'm not looking for a full-time career I already had one . Also like I stated in previous posts I already found a part-time job for a few hours a week I am just looking for another one . Telling me how hard I should work like some job counsellor is not what I'm looking for . Trust me I know how to work I stuck it out for 30 years at one place and now I am receiving a monthly pension check for it . The pension check is enough to cover the rent and utilities do you still need a life after you pay those . Also I need to get out and about once in a while so a one or two day a week job does just that .

Some 15 years ago I was in the same position as you, as I was forced into early retirement due to company downsizing. I discovered that the employment opportunities for an individual in their 50's who worked for the same company for over 30 years was very slim. My employer paid for myself and all others forced into early retirement to take a one day course offered through KPMG on how to market oneself. We also learned how to think creatively and create our own employment. Here is some of the employment opportunities us early retirees created for ourselves. One of my co-workers stared a Pet Taxi, her clients are mainly seniors who can no longer drive. She picks their pet up and takes same to Vet appointments, boarding kennels,etc. She is still working and does one or two trips a day. Another co-worker started a visitation/companion program. There are so many seniors in nursing homes whose family, because of distance of time constraints cannot visit their loved one. Her clients are mainly individuals suffering from alzhiemers. She will take the individual to church, out for coffee - whatever the family wishes. Her daughter has now taken over the business, which is now greater then full time. The daughter charges $15.00 per hour and actually has a waiting list of families who has requested her services for a loved one confined to a nursing home. Another individual I worked with went to the banks and offered his services to do yard maintenance (mow grass, shovel walks etc.) of houses that were vacant and in foreclosure. He has 2-3 homes a month that he cares for. There are so many opportunities in and around Brandon for creating your own employment, that does not involve Multi Level Marketing. Take a look at your skills and how you can apply same to create employment for yourself.
